It's been a tradition for us to eat at Captian Jacks on our first night. However, I think we will have to find a new tradition. My kids and I were visiting Orlando last week and even though we had no plans to visit the Disney parks we did visit Downtown Disney. We decided to eat at Captain Jacks. I was so grossed out. The resturant is really looking worn and outdated. I don't think the menu has changed since we bagan going to Disney 20 years ago. The table was sticky as well as the menus. Our waiter was less than helpful. He brought the wrong drinks to our table. After he placed 4 drinks on the table, he realized his mistake, picked them up and took them to the table across from us. We then waited another 10 minutes for just our drinks. Keep in mind, it was not busy at all. It was around 4:45 in the afternoon. I ordered the crab cakes. I think they were left over from the day before. I wish Disney would add another Dining Plan resturant downtown.
We are planning a trip for next May. Im kindda sad that we can not include Captain Jacks in our plans.

wow, sorry it sounds like capn jacks was lacking recently!

it does remind us of red lobster from back home - but more expensive

Hmmm...Never eaten there. I'm assuming it's not named after Sparrow (20 years ago). That'd be some foresight.

This restaurant has been terrible for years. On our last visit in 2004 our waitress actually whispered to us, "Stick with appetizers tonight."

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: As a waitress myself, I truly can appreicate the humor as well as the horror of this situation!:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This place is awful. We've gone twice in our last 2 visits and that's the last. The food is nuked, it's not even fresh and the place is dirty. The lobster and green beans were rubber! Service isn't great either.

Captain Jacks is and always has been the cesspool of WDW eateries. The place is a dive. I can't imagine anyone ever having a good meal there. If you want better seafood try the McDs filet o'fish! LOL!

What makes the situation so pathetic is that Captain Jack's sits on a nice piece of waterfront real estate and is one of the oldest restaurants in WDW. It's the only restaurant around since the days of the Walt Disney World Village Marketplace.

Cancelled my ADR for Cap n Jacks in September:eek: based on these reviews I will not be missing much!

Booked ADR for Kona Cafe!

we ate there last Sept, the Lobster was actually wonderful, the whole party of 14 thought so, and I do admit, some people cannot prepare lobster without it being rubbery, this was not the case, its not real fancy, almost imitates a fishing boat theme, but it was clean and the view was nice, our waitress was GREAT. It was not sticky or dirty..............Wonder if the tips being removed from the dining plan this year has all the servers angry................our waitress last year was great, she thought that my 11 year old was nuts for ordering P/B instead of Lobster, since he was considered an adult on the DDP, so she gave him the P/B free and gave us an additional twin Lobster tail dinner, the 11 year old ended up thinking the lobster was so tender and good, he ate one, I had the other plus my two lobster tails too.............:cool1: :thumbsup2  I actually booked again for this free dining, I am going to give it another try, since our experience was pleasant.............I don't like Red Lobster at all and I thought the food here was a bit better, not anything I would drive an hour for or go crazy about , but on the DDP, I like it, you cannot beat the twin lobster dinner and hopefully they still offer it to those on the 2009 DDP and the DDXDP..........:scared1: but then again, I wear a fannypack!

We eat there every year.....it is going down hill, needs a refurb. bad.
Last Aug. carpet was worn pretty bad, was a bit dirty...we ate late though...
We will be back there Sept. 6. I will write a review....I do pay attention to cleanliness at rest., look around window sills, lights, bathrooms, etc.
The food is about the equiv. of a red lobster......IMO.....it works for us.....
I dont consider it one of the best meals we eat at the world......we like the views and the convenience to DTD.

Sotolaf is right--Captain Jack's has a great location and has been around since the beginning. It should (and with a little effort, COULD) be a better place.

We ate there in June. Although it was nothing special we had a nice dinner with no complaints.

YIKES!!!!! I have read this review & a few others that we have res. for in 3 weeks! I'm wondering if I should try to change them! :scared1: :scared1:

It is really disappointing to hear the bad reviews of Cap n' Jacks and the condition of the inside, especially since they were suppose to go thru a rehab in May.

This could be a Signature location for Disney in the Downtown area! It would make a great location to attract an adult crowd to with a more strict dress code.

Of course DTD is undergoing big changes right now with the closing of PI, can't wait to see the finished product.

we ate there the first night of our trip...which was july 7th...it was not as horrendous as everyone makes it out to be. my mom and i are well accustomed to fine dining, and while capt n jacks is not exceptional, it is not all that bad. we had a pleasant laid back meal, the food was average, but definatly a major step up from red lobster (that place always seems clausterphobic and messy). we will probably go again during our next trip.

My sister and I ate there for lunch in July while the boys went fishing up the coast. It was nothing to write home about. The two of us were shopping at DTD so it was the apparent choice(we had Deluxe plan) We had a chowder, cocktail shrimps, Caesars' salad w/shrimp, and crab cakes. Desserts were just plain cheesecake and fruit salad. Believe it or not, Capt. Jack has the best cocktail shrimp of our trip. No kidding! Meanwhile, the rest of our meal was forgetaboutit bad...
