I don't see much posted here about Captain's Grill and was wondering what your experiences have been. We're going for dinner there with another couple. There's a possibility we may go to Le Cellier that evening, but they aren't sure if they are doing the parks on this trip. DH and I are planning to hit Epcot after the 3v3 soccer tournament that morning/afternoon, and figured Captain's Grill would be a good location that we could easily walk to from Epcot for a 7:30 ADR (we're staying at CSR). We were going to do Yachtsman's Steakhouse, but DH and I are on the DDP and don't want to use 2TS each for this restaurant since we're using 2TS each for our anniversary dinner at Narcoossee's (DH's favorite, and mine too honestly).

Thanks for your feedback!

The Captain's Grille is one of my favorite places because it's hardly ever completely full, has delicious food, and has great atmosphere right off the Yacht Club lobby. I consider it one of the best kept secrets at Disney! I always end up there at least twice per trip on the dining plan, and am looking forward to it again in November!

Fantastic, thank you! This is just what I wanted to hear, because the menu sounds delicious, and it's just going to be a relaxing dinner for four adults after spending 3 days on a soccer field with 6 wild and crazy 10-11 year old boys. I can't wait already!

We have never eaten there but we have ADRs for breakfast and lunch on our upcoming December trip....we are staying at BC so it will be very easy for us to get to. My DH has been drooling over the menus since he saw them on allearsnet.com. We cannot wait to try it out, I too have heard that this is a best kept secret that Disney has.

I'm also a big fan of Captain's Grill. We were able to get in for breakfast without an ADR. I think we had about a 15 minute wait.

I stayed at YC over a dozen times before I finally tried CG, but now that I have, I go back on every long trip. It's got good food and service and is usually pretty quiet.

I'm thrilled to hear these reviews! Plus they have a prix fixe menu, which is great since DH and I will be on the basic DDP. Yahoo, Captain's Grill here we come!

Oh, can anyone tell me about the chocolate profiteroles? Are they a chocolate puff with chocolate ice cream, or chocolate ice cream with regular puff? (we had these at our rehearsal dinner, regular ones, and we have a running joke with a friend of ours who wanted to take the "puffs" home with him.)

We did breakfast twice and would not do that again, it wasnt the greatest. We did dinner once and it was very good, the best pork chop I ever had! If we stay in that area again I would eat there but I would not go out of my way for it, sorta like Kona dinner, if I am staying at the Poly yeah I might eat there but not go out of my way for it.

Captain's Grille was our favorite restaurant on this last trip. It was obvious that things were very FRESH here AND MADE FROM SCRATCH (so many other restaurants tasted like pre-made food or food that was obviously under heat lamps for a longggg time.)

The prix fix meal is a great option too. Even if you are on the dining plan, you get a select appy included!

Caesar salad app is DELICIOUS (and i usually hate caesar dressing). It was HUGE!
The crab cake app was also delicious and comes with really fresh slaw on the side.
We were told by the waiter that the clam chowder is also made fresh daily, but we didn't get the chance to try that.

The roast chicken on mushroom pearl pasta was amazing!
Onion tart entree was also light, flakey and delicious!

If you get a steak here, ask for a real steak knife from the steakhouse next door. Our server went and got one from there. All of the standard Disney restaurants have steak knives that have less teeth on them than the butter knives. The wrong knife will give the illusion of a tough steak.

The profiterole is NOT the same as the one in italy with the ice cream. It does NOT have ice cream.
It was tastey, but it is a big chocolate filled cream puff with chocolate glaze. Basically it was a donut. If you want a big chocolate fix, this would be it. I think some of the other desserts are better choices though. They have a display table of desserts at the front of the restaurant when you enter.

We stayed at the Yacht Club this past summer, and we tried Captains Grille for the first time and really loved it!! It was a very quiet and relaxing lunch! We'd definitely go back!!!

Excellent review, thank you. And extremely good to know about the profiterole, that's definitely not something we'll order if it's not a usual one with ice cream and puff pastry. Can't wait, so glad we picked this!!!

Our experience was also quite good. DW did not like it as much as I did as I recall, but the food was pretty good, the service was excellent, and it was a really quiet and relaxing place to dine. Especially since we were staying at BCV at the time we ate there.

We tried Le Cellier during our last trip and weren't so thrilled with it (despite all the rave reviews - I was very disappointed). So we are definitely looking at the YC restaurants for out next trip as we will be staying at BC as well. What have you got to lose, right? I love trying new restaurants!

I was wondering about the breakfast. They have a buffet or you can order off the menu. Since it is a regular restaurant for lunch and dinner, how is the buffet set-up for breakfast? Is it a lot smaller than the other buffets? Any pics?

(We can't get breakfast ressies at the Cape May buffet but we did get Captain's Grill ressies. This may work out better for us as we are 5 adults and I really don't care for the character buffets anyway.)

We have not tried this yet but we will be staying at the beach club next month. We are travelling with a food allergy. The chef from Captians Grill called me and is able to accomodate us completely. He is able to make anything we need and it sounds like everything is from scratch. I had to cancel the cape may buffet b/c they were not able to accomodate the way that I would like. So, I am was very happy with my conversation with the chef (Bryan ?) and am looking forward to eating there most bf's.

You can TELL the food is fresh and from scratch!

I can NOT say the same for Kona (definitely premade heat lamped food there...just terrible. I know everyone LOVES it. I have no idea why.)

We always stay at YC and eat breakfast almost daily there. Never around for lunch as we are in the parks and always preferred other spots for dinner until our last trip in March. We were tired, not up to Yachtsman and thought we'd just give it a try. We loved it. Quiet, quiet, quiet. Same great service as we always have at breakfast. Great food - especially the chowder. I am really fond of the fresh beet salad served (at that time) at Yachtsman but it was not on the CG menu. Our waiter said no problem and got it for me. My ds had a steak he proclaimed wonderful, we had a relaxing and quiet wind down and their wine list was just the same. We will definitely go there again.
