I am told since we are a returning guest that we will be able to attend a so called Captain's Dinner. Has anyone attended this? What dinning room is it in? Is the menu different than what you would normally have? Is it worth going to?

Returning cruisers are invited to a reception held in the late afternoon in Rockin Bar D.......no dinner, just drinks and good munchies.

I believe that you are thinking of the Castaway Club Reception, which is hosted by the Captain of the ship. They have delicious appetizers and free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Not sure about this  There is one night themed Captain's Dinner I believe it's formal night. You stay on your regular dinning rotation. As I recall it was Steak and Lobster served. DH and I found that to be a great night for Palo. LOL

OR

Maybe you mean the the Welcome Back Reception held for Castaway Club Members. It's not a dinner just cocktails and appetizers.

There is also a Captain's Welcome Reception held for everyone aboard, in the Lobby Atrium on Deck 3 and 4 again serving C's and A's. This usually occurs on Formal Night on the Magic, sorry not sure about the Wonder.

We've sailed 6 times now with DCL and never have dined with the Captain but have dined with some of the Officers.

Ok, we have sailed 4 times on the Magic, and NEVER dined with the Captain! Unless you count eating a candy while hugging Captain Mickey! Nat:Pinkbounc

Is this reception the first afternoon of the cruise?

Are the kids club open during the Castaway Club reception?

If not, are they allowed to attend this event as well (especially if they are return cruisers themselves)?

Is this something worth attending?

Thanks!

natdenco, I'd count that as eating with the Top Boss.

Depending on which ship we are talking about. I know only of the Magic, sorry to say. No receptions are held on th first night out. Yes, children are welcomed to all. The kids clubs open at 7p.m. the first night out.

Monday Night is the Captain's Reception 5:45p.m. for guests with an 8:30 p.m. Dinner seation
7:45 p.m. for guests with the 6:00 p.m. Dinner Seating.
This nights may change so it's best to check in your Personal Navigator daily.
For the Castaway Club Members Reception you will received and invitation in your stateroom.

I would say yes, it's something worth attending if you've never been.

Thanks Ginger!

My DH, DD (10) , DS (4) and DD (6 months) are sailing the Magic next April, our second cruise (1st Halloween 2002, Wonder). We are all so excited. We had originally booked a 7 day cruise while we we on board last time for January 2003, but had to cancel and reschedule since our newest addition wasn' t yet old enough. She'll be 18 months when we sail, and we are so excited to share the whole disney cruise experience with her even if she won't remember it all. Hey that's what pictures and video are for.

How long was the CC reception? Does it end before the evening show or will we have to choose between the reception or the evening show?

Can anyone tell me when the Castaway Club reception is held on the Wonder and how long it lasts? Thanks

You will find that you will probably stand in line for 20 minutes for a drink and some pick up food. We figure there are a lot more fun things to do on board that this.

We went to the Castaway Club reception on our first "returner" cruise but on our second, we completely forgot! Even free drinks inside couldn't lure us away from sunshine on Deck 10!

No missing anything tho - I think it's held around 4.30 or 5.00pm on each cruise. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I don't recall having to stand in any lines. The CM came around with drinks on a tray and served us at the table. The buffet was not crowded either. The captain and the other officers mingle with the guests and chat with everyone. Yes, the Wonder reception is on CC day. You will receive a invitation in your room.

The three day Wonder is 5:15 p.m. on Castaway Cay day. I know because we never miss it! The food and drinks are okay, but we go because it's a point of pride since I consider myself a Platinum member. :D For me, the most enjoyable part is getting a chance to chat with the captain and other officers and crew. Most of the photos in our gallery of captains were taken at the CC reception.

That is our experience, as well. We've been to two CC receptions and never had to wait in a line for food and the wait staff took our drink orders and brought us whatever we wanted.

The Captain also gives kids their signed trading cards. It's a great chance to get a picture with the Captain & meet other return cruisers!

We love going to them too! A great chance to talk to the Captain and the staff. With more and more returning cruisers it gets a little crowded now. We've always had someone offer us drinks (no waiting in line) and the buffet line was never really crowded (and lots and lots of goodies on it.
