I just tried to book a trip on Grand Cayman for the Stingray City tours and everything is completely booked on our cruise!!! The DCL personnel said the Western trips have been very popular and everything is booking fast. My six year old son really wants to see the stingrays and would be disappointed w/out some sort of snorkeling so after looking on the web, I found Captain Marvin's they do have two different trips we could do and it sounds good.

Has anyone tried them out yet?

Thanks for the info!

We used them on the 5-11 cruise. Overall we were happy with them. The only thing I didn't care for is they told me they had life vests for my 4 year olds in order to snorkel. I assumed they would be the vest type you see with snorkeling gear. They were regular orange life vests and they tied them around my kids waists. I was unable to snorkel since I had to hold on to my kids to keep them from tipping over. But, as I said we were happy with them overall. I would use them again, but would bring my own vests next time. We only had 11 people on our excursion-all DCL. There were 3 guys manning the boat. Stingray City is the best. They got into the water with us and held up a stingray for use to see, take pictures with and explained about the stingrays. They gave us squid to feed them and they helped my kids feed the stingrays. It was the highlight of our vacation. Take a waterproof camera to get some good pictures.

Clark,

We are on your cruise (June 22) and we've booked directly with Capt'n Marvins (not a Disney Magic excursion). The DIS boards have been really positive about the trips they put on. Cam & I went to Stingray City in Feb. '00 while on a western cruise with Celebrity Cruise Lines (the Mercury) and did the excursion with them. I think Capt'n Marvins was the excursion company at that time. We loved it!! That is why we must go back, and we are taking a couple other friends along with us.

Hope to see you on deck 10 on June 22!!!

Howard

We used Captain Marvin's in the spring of 2001 for a snorkel and Stingray City tour while on a Carnival cruise. It was wonderful and sooo much better than what was offered from the cruise ship. We know because half our family did the ship tour and half did Captain Marvin's. The Captain Marvin's tour did some snorkeling over reefs that was beautiful, plus the Stingrays. We had about 15 people on the boat, we got some individual help with the equipment, we were first time snorkelers. Also saw a moray [sp?] eel that the ship's diver lured out of his reef.

The ship's tour was infected with many loudly screaming teenage girls. This got the younger children terrified [hubby stated our youngest, age 8, wouldn't even leave the boat, the screaming scared her so much.]

We actually booked the half day trip today and are really looking forward to it.

Hey Howard-Did you do the half day too? or the two hour? Hopefully we will be on the same one but will definately see you on deck 10 on the 22nd! :bounce:

Hi!
When we stayed in Grand Cayman in November, 2001, we went to Stingray Sandbar with Captain Dexter. Check out his website: dexters-fantaseatours.com.
He picked us up from our condo and took us to his catamaran. You can bring cameras, camcorders, snacks/drinks onboard. His cat only holds 16 people, and on the day we went out with him, there was only our party of 6.
No matter who you take this excursion with, it is not to be missed.
Enjoy!

We used Capt. Marvins on the 11 May inaugural. I agree with the positive comments. They were really good to work with. It was a pretty small group (I think we had about 18-20), they had water and fruit punch, the boat and equipment were clean, etc., etc., etc.

We took the 1/2 day excursion and enjoyed it a lot. They have a videographer on board who scubas under you and takes a video. It was pretty reasonable (about $50 to have it shipped to you), and he edited it to add some background music, etc.

I know that Catomom did the 1/2 day wreck snorkling in the afternoon. She might have some input on it. Kendra, are you out there??

Clark,

Here is the Captain Marvin's confirmation information for our trip.

Two-hour trip (11:15-1:15)
4 adults (Cam, Caroline, Mike and myself)-Stingray City, snorkel,
Date of trip (6/25/02), Ship, condo or hotel (Disney Magic)

Looking forward to meeting you and yours at the sail-away party on Deck 10!! :)

We did the same Capt. Marvins as TKDLisa and really enjoyed it. I second her comments.

We also did the wrecks and reefs snorkel trip afterwards and I'd say that was ok compared to the first one being great! Much smaller group, only 5 of us, smaller boat, 1 employee. Good snorkelling but if you're going to only choose one, you MUST do the ones including stingray city!

Hope this helps!
Kendra
