Captain H00k's Caribbean Beach Resort Review

I did not get to read every post so sorry if this was answered already - we will be at CBR for the first time in November. Where can you see Illuminations from?
Thanks so much!

Many people report being able to see it from the Martinique beach, Trinidad North, and in front of Old Port Royale as well.

Also, be sure to check out safetymom's CBR FAQs II thread if you haven't - answers to every topic CBR related are sure to be found in there!

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Did you pay extra for the king bed request, or did you simply make it a request on your ressie? We'll be at CBR in one week  and we're requesting connecting rooms. We'd love for one of those rooms to have a king bed! Do you think we should just fax the request prior to arrival, or should we call (if it's not an additional charge)? Thanks and glad you had such a great trip!!!

King beds cost extra at CBR. It is not a request. You can try but I doubt you would get it since they will be very busy.

Thanks, and be sure to listen to safetymom! You'll notice that CBR has 3 types of room "upgrades": King Bed, Water View, or Preferred Location.

You should pay for the upgrade that is most important to you, then request anything that is secondary to that main desire.

In your particular scenario, it would be/would've been most advantageous for you to pay for the King Bed room upgrade, then request a room that connects to that King Bed room.

Have fun!

What is the upcharge for a King Bed?
This option wasn't offered to me over the phone.

How many King rooms are there, do any connect to the std doubles? Wondering if it is likely to get connecting rooms for a King & a Standard and if this then reduces your chance of getting a requested location like Jamaica or Aruba.

The cost for any of the upgrades is an additional $15 per night before taxes. Our King Bed Room had adjoining doors and the room next to ours was a Standard Room, so I'm going to say "yes" it is likely that you can get connecting rooms for a King and a Standard. Be sure to read safetymom's thread as well as play with the room only, package, and tickets reservation tool on DisneyWorld.com to view available options for rooms at any given resort on property.

I have no clue on how much, if any, this reduces your chance of being placed in a requested village location at CBR though.

Thanks. :)

So glad you enjoyed your stay at CBR!! Arent the king rooms and the view great there? Were you in a corner room? If so, the extra window makes the room look even larger!

We soo cant wait to return to CBR. Thanks for sharing your review and pics!

While I am crossing my fingers that I get as similar room as Captain H00k's, I really don't care what village they put me in. I paid for a King, and requested (1) close to a quiet pool, (2) no parking lot view, and (3) close to a bus stop, but not necessarily OPR (because I am a single female traveller). :beach:

The rooms have coffee makers, so as soon as I'm up, I'm having that first cup of coffee and then I head out and grab a muffin or something from the first bakery I come across in the parks (Mmmmmm ... Main Street Bakery :worship: ).

Thanks a bunch for the kind words. Jamaica is definitely a great spot if you don't want to pop for the Preferred Room fee (or would definitely want a King Bed over a Preferred Room.)
Thank you. Jamaica building 43 (I think or maybe 41 - need to refer to property map) would be a bit closer to the beach. Building 42 is in a great spot too though! There are certainly lots of fuzzy and feathery animals about at CBR. :)
I just looked at my printout and 'king bed' is on it. I know the CRO I spoke with also put Jamaica and waterview (after I mentioned lakeview) into her computer as 'requests' and she did say those two couldn't be guaranteed. She had asked which of the three things I wanted as a guarantee and I chose king bed. Since it's just dh and I, we'll be happy anywhere they put us. We can find the lake and those inviting hammocks, plus we enjoy walking.......especially if it's in a tropical setting like that!
We also are thinking about renting bikes to ride around the resort. Do you have any thoughts on that? I read where it's a little over a mile around the promenade part.

I just noticed that safteymom beat me. She's certainly the resident expert on all things CBR, so based on that information, Trinidad North and Martinique preferred buildings are probably out of the quesiton.

Just hope, pray, and wish for Jamaica, Aruba, or Trinidad North/Martinique "non-preferred" buildings and you'll be fine.

What am I saying?! You're going to CBR and the Disney Parks - you'll be fine regardless!!

Thank you so much Captain Hook & Safety Mom- You both know what you're talking about. I do have one more question- safety mom- u said the hotels will be booked for the dates I'm going, is it because of the free dining? Do you think the parks will be packed too? I went in Sept last year, the 2oth I believe was my arrival date, and the parks were pretty quiet the whole week. I know the free dining plan brings alot of people in, but will they make the parks packed? I know Saturday they will be busier than normal, but during the week too?

Also, originally I did ask for a preferred room, but when I called back after receiving my vouchers and it did not say it on there, they didn't have it in the system, so they made a note. Hopefully they can accomodate.

I am sure the parks are going to be pretty crowded.

If they have it noted then you might have a better chance for a preferred location.

The King Rooms are very nice and romantic for couples traveling either without children or couples with older children in their own room.

I think most, if not all, of the King Rooms are on the corner with the extra window - which is indeed great!

NeverlandPixie, I think you'll be in great shape with everything when you get to CBR! We had a muffin one morning at the Grab 'N Go at OPR and they were really good and hit the spot for a good morning in the parks. Good call on Main Street Bakery. :)

As I said to NeverlandPixie, I'm sure you'll be quite happy with everything at CBR. We were planning to either rent a surrey bike or take one of the boats out on the lake, but didn't have the chance to do one of those. The promenade is about 1.4 miles and looks to be the perfect track to take a nice ride around in the evening.

Thanks for the trip report. We'll be there in 10 days! I'm so excited that I can't stand it! CBR is very special to us because it's where we spent our honeymoon almost 15 years ago, right before we took a cruise on the Big Red Boat.

We loved CBR so much that on our last trip to ASMu, we went back to CBR to look around, kind of sad that we didn't stay there on that trip too. DH said next time we're going back there, and now we are!

We were in Barbados the last time and I can't wait to see where we end up this time. We didn't put any requests in.

Have a great time on your upcoming trip! :woohoo:

P.S.: Me = jealous.

I hope that's the case with the king in the corners. I had wanted to request a corner, but was afraid I was asking for too much at once. Whatever we get will be an added bonus!
We want to do some type of boating in addition to the bike rental just to look at the wildlife. I don't know how much free time we'll have, but we'll be fitting in as much as we can!

Just booked CBR with a discount code this morning.

What are people's thoughts about the villages? I heard that Jamaica is good because it's the first stop for the Disney Shuttle bus. Is this true and is this a BIG advantage??

I look forward to everyone's thoughts on this. . .

It depends on which way the bus comes into the resort whether or not it is the first stop.
