Captain Eo?

I'm not even going to join in with the MJ debate.

As for Captain Eurgh, I don't care for it. DH forced me to see it once and I didn't understand the clapping before it even started. I assumed it would be good?

I was wrong (in my opinion.. Disclaimer: this is not necessarily the opinion of other WDW visitors! :P ) I did learn one thing from it though - I learnt that Michael Jackson saved the world by crotch thrusting to music! Valuble lesson to all.

Very bizarre show. I will admit that I did clap along with everyone else - I was pleased it was over.

But you were the one insisting that being found not guilty is the same thing as being innocent. That is not the case. In your American system of justice, the accused is presumed innocent until found guilty by a jury of his peers. That is not the same thing as being innocent. To think otherwise is simplistic. Because there is insufficient evidence to procede does not mean a crime wasn't commited. And aquittal does not necessarily prove innocence. I think there have been enough high profile cases in your own country to illustrate that point quite clearly.

minnie MUM....I think it best if you do just that. You are talking out both sides of your mouth.

MJ rules, BTW!

Whoa Nelly is this an excitable crowd!

Ok, regardless if you like MJ or not, I do so have to share that. Regardless if the picture quality and 3D effects are cutting edge or not, no they're not so we can get beyond that. The story of the attraction is about spreading love and acceptance through music. If you can't even see that you are totally missing something and I'm sad for you.

If you don't like it then don't go see it again. Like someone else pointed out there are tons of other attractions to see, just veer past that building and let the people who like it go see it.

I've seen Captain Eo 9 times in the parks, countless times via YouTube and each time, it was about a guy in a bizarre ship with an even stranger crew going to a planet to sing to Angelica Huston. Nothing about celebrating his life... Unless his life is way more epic than was ever reported.

In seriousness though, I love Captain Eo, and I get what it's about. I'm very happy Disney brought it back... I never got to see it during it's first run (it closed months before I made it to EPCOT for my first trip). I'm a child of the 80's and that show takes me right back to a time that I remember very, very fondly. And the movie, it's not about the best special effects, cutting edge technology, nor is it designed to be a theater experience on par with Avatar. It's just the revival of a movie done by a man that, when he passed, really affected a lot of people. And, believe it or not, when the movie first came out it was an absolute sensation not only what it was in terms of special effects and full-range 3D, but because it promised to have the first glimpse of the first song to come off of the "Bad" album, which there's no denying is a HUGE force in pop culture, music, and entertainment history.

I know I'm not the only one who loves it... Like a PP stated, even when I went in off-off-off season, the theater was still 75% full and finished with cheers, claps, and a few standing ovations. People sang on the way out of the movie theater, fondly talked about how they were kids when they saw it at Disney last... It was pretty cool to see people in their 40s and 50s thinking back to previous Disney trips from decades ago and having that feeling again. Of course, there were people that hated it, thought it was stupid, etc etc... But that's every show and ride. I doubt this one will be around long, but I know tons of people are enjoying it.

As for MJ the man, all I will say on that is that even the most surface of research into the allegations against him and you'll see why he was aquitted and was almost certainly not a child molester. He was absolutely a very troubled person with serious emotional and mental issues, who relied on people he shouldn't have to help him cope, who existed in a life that would be as hard for us to concieve of as a normal life was impossible for him to concive of was. He was preyed on for his money, fame, and talent his whole life, right up to his death and long after. And none of that comes up at any point during Captain Eo.

So... I'm off my soapbox. :D

All that AND a Envy Adams avatar. You're awesome.

Matthew Broderick ~ In a car accident that resulted in the death of two people after a suspected alcohol binge. Was supposed to go to jail for up to 5 years, ended up paying a fine of $175.

Being not much of a "The Lion King" fan, I was taken aback for a moment when you mentioned Matthew Broderick...I was like...Inspector Gadget isn't at any Disney Theme Parks, is he?

For me, Captain EO brings back childhood memories of when I visited Disney and Epcot as a kid in the 80's as much as the original Journey Into Imagination with Figment (which I have to say is sadly not the same now as I remember it). As an adult, it was a year ago that I took my two boys to Epcot and as fans of MJ's music, they both loved it, especially my then DS7. Despite it's cheesiness, I still enjoyed it, or at least the music, which took me back to my childhood.

And for those of us that visited Disney as children and now return as parents, isn't it fun to relive the magic and attractions that made us fall in love with the park through our children's eyes and to have our children create their own memories? Whether it's Captain EO, It's A Small World (which my husband can't stand), Space Mountain, or any other attraction that some people loved and some may not, wouldn't it be sad if attractions you loved were no more for you to never enjoy again? If you don't enjoy it, don't ride or watch it again.

One of my worst Disney Memories is standing in line for Captain EO when visiting Disney World for the first time at age 5. My sister was obsessed with Michael Jackson and we "just had to see this." We stood in line forever & ever and IT WAS HORRIBLE. Even my sister, who loved anything and everything about Michael Jackson, HATED IT!! Regardless of "known child molester," "acquitted child molester," "accused child molester," etc. This is not Disney quality entertainment. Just My Opinion!!!

I agree with the above poster that Captain EO is not quality Disney entertainment.

I took my husband to see it a few months ago and all it did for us was give us a good laugh.

Plus, there was a man behind us who kept saying in his BEST MJ voice,
"hee-hee."
I think THAT made us laugh more than the film did. :)

To each his own-I thought it was stupid in the 80's and my opinion hasn't changed.

Perhaps if MJ wore this outfit in Captain EO he would be more accepted. :confused3:rolleyes1

The show is harmless fluff and easy to avoid. I don't see the problem...

I for one was extraordinarily happy to see "Honey, I shrunk the Audience" gone, gone, gone!!!!! Even if I didn't love Captain Eo, I would rather watch paint dry in that theater then see that again. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Easy enough. I'm sure it takes a long time to develop and create a new 3D or 4D or whatever experience. They are probably already working on it and when they're done Captain Eo will go back in the vault.

But you were the one insisting that being found not guilty is the same thing as being innocent. That is not the case. In your American system of justice, the accused is presumed innocent until found guilty by a jury of his peers. That is not the same thing as being innocent. To think otherwise is simplistic. What we have here is a case of somebody who wasn't on the jury who thinks, based on what they heard in the media and/or the belief that he was weird, that despite being found not guilty in criminal court, aquitted on all charges, that that means he's still guilty. That being found guilty by trial of media somehow means a guilt that superceeds criminal court.

The evidence is now freely available and I think, as I said earlier, even the most basic of reading of the facts and evidence, it's quite clear that he was in no way guilty of what he was accused of.

And for the record, I like MJ, but I'm not a superfan, and before the case was made open to the public, I thought he was guilty too based off of what was shared in the media.

Regardless... NONE of this comes up in Captain Eo.

Can anyone tell me why Disney decided to start showing Captain EO at WDW again recently?

I get that it used to be a show that was popular but since then, Jackson has gone from popular superstar to a known child molesting pervert who was known to take seriously large amount of drugs and was finally killed by his "doctor".

Why on earth is a show celebrating his life considered to be suitable in a theme park frequented mainly by children? Looking online very few people seem even the slightest bit concerned about it, am i missing something here?

To the OP:
If you Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', you'll have to be Workin' Day And Night to stay one step ahead of the DIS regulars. You might Enjoy Yourself, being Off The Wall. I understand that it's only Human Nature to want a Thriller like having so many people respond on your thread. Some might say, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough. I just say, it's as simple as ABC, take a look at The Man In The Mirror and BEAT IT!!! :smooth:
