captain eo returning to all disney parks worldwide

They re-opened Captain EO in FEB in Disneyland ... I had never seen it before ... I will say I really enjoyed it at DL! I go to DL often as I live close by and there is always a huge line to get into see the show. On the flip side of this ... "Honey I Shrunk The Audience" has been at both DL and WDW for over 15 years ... it sure was time for a change!!! ::yes::

Popularity and return
After the death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009, Captain EO regained popularity on the Internet. For several years, fans had petitioned Disney to bring back the attraction and Jackson's death had brought this campaign to a peak. Soon afterward, Disney officials were seen in Disneyland at the Magic Eye Theater and reportedly held a private screening of Captain EO to determine if it could be shown again. It was rumored that Disneyland would announce the return of the attraction at Disneyland in September. However, on September 10, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "There aren’t plans to bring back Captain EO at this time ... We are looking at it. It’s the kind of thing that, if we did it, would get a fair amount of attention and we’d want to make sure we do it right."

On December 18, 2009, it was announced that Captain EO would return to Tomorrowland at Disneyland beginning in February 2010. Social and Print Media Manager Heather Hust Rivera from Disneyland Resorts confirmed this on the DisneyParks Blog and stated that Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! would be closing. The attraction hosted its final public showing in the Magic Eye Theater (Now named the Tomorrowland Theater) at midnight on January 4, 2010 to make way for the Michael Jackson film's return.
The attraction, now entitled Captain EO Tribute, re-opened at Disneyland park on February 23, 2010.

On April 21, 2010, it was announced that Captain EO would return to Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris beginning in June 2010. A flash update to Cast Members confirmed this and stated that Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! would be closing. The 3D show will host its final public showing on May 3, 2010 to make way for the Michael Jackson film's return.[ Following the temporary operating period, a new interactive show will premiere, although at this point, no details have been released.
Captain EO is also returning to Walt Disney World. The 17-minute musical space-fantasy adventure film is now scheduled to begin at Epcot on July 2nd.
At Tokyo Disneyland, Captain EO will also return in the near future.

I'm excited to see it again! Honey was getting old. And my kids have not seen Captain EO(I do remember it being scary though- I'm thinking the little ones should skip it? I am I remembering that correctly?) It'll open the week before we get there!

No, I don't think it is scary at all ... the kiddos will love it. If you are concerned, you could go see it and then decide and then take the kiddos ... but I saw it in FEB and really honestly cannot remember if there is anything scary in it at all.

YES, Honey was VERY old.

With all the rumours regarding Michael Jackson, I found this rather disappointing for a family friendly amusement park.

I saw it back in 1993 when I first went to WDW. It was nothing special. And my nephews (who were 2 1/2 at the time) thought Michael Jackson was a girl! :lmao:

I've never seen it. I'll have a look next September.

I hate Honey. I've seen in maybe 3 times in all the times I've gone to Disney. The last time I went, I said no more.

Entering the theater, some idiot sat in the middle, and even though the cast members kept saying move all the way down, she wouldn't do anything about the guy sitting in the middle of the row. So after about 2 minutes of trying to get the guy to move, I continue all the way down. (this was a full show because of the stupid "special fastpass", you get one for your ride, then one for a second attraction). So I finally sit down, and then the stupid mice scene happens and nearly got kicked in the back of the head by a full grown woman sitting behind me, she managed to kick the top of the chair. Seriously, you that afraid of a bit of air blowing on you??

I will be happy to see that show gone. And I'll probably see Captian EO just once just to see how cheesy it really is. And once again avoid that theater as always.

I saw it at DL just last month. It was the first time I saw it. Not being a huge MJ fan (not a hater, just not that into him either) I have to say it was a little underwhelming. But I'm glad I saw it and I'm happy for all the MJ fans that get to see it again. :)

Why are they bringing it back? Just because he died? I don't really remember it being all that. Will it even hold up to audiences today?

Lack of money for new attraction so recycle an old one?

Really? You are going to go there???

LET. IT. GO.

Why? It is a valid observation. I'm not the only person who feels this way. There are too many rumours surrounding him and people will feel it is inappropriate to have this attraction in a family park.

You might want to check it out before bringing your little ones. When I went last week, there was a child crying the entire time (I think the Queen scared him).

I feel the same way.

I've already seen it, but if I had not, I would purposely avoid it because he is in it. Another who thinks he does not belong in a Disney park.

Glad my passes just expired as I won't be paying money for anything that might benefit what I believe to be at the very least a serious prescription drug addict and unfit parent, being strung out on drugs as bad as he was negates any respect I could of had for him as a parent, never mind that I think he is a pedophile. I like the Dis so i will stick around to share my love of Disneyland but I can't see them getting any of my business in the foreseeable future. I feel his family enabled him as well and I don't want my money going to his estate.

I believe it's on YouTube somewhere if you want to check it out for yourself before making a decision.

I still have my Captain EO shirt from the 1980's. I vaguely remember the movie, but I was on my honeymoon and it was my first trip to WDW. Everything was new and incredible to me back then.

I think that it was a groundbreaking part of Disney in the 80's, so if you have the chance to see it, go. I'd expect a "soft opening" (meaning, unannounced) a day or so before. They have to test everything out, right? Unless they're not using any of the HISTA special effects...
