Captain EO Return Has Green Light - For January

2 things I'm wondering once Captain EO returns. Just thinking out loud, I don't know if there are even answers for these questions.

How long will Captain EO stay?

Does anyone think HISTA will come back after Captain EO leaves, or will they replace it with an entirely new attraction?

That's what I want to know too. This sounds like a good time to get rid of HISTA after EO is done. I hope they are thinking ahead!

DH wondered if they would put a Marvel themed movie in after EO is done. DH is a Marvel fan but he and I both agree that we don't want to see Marvel themed stuff at DLR.

That's an idea. Maybe if it was there and sort of furturistic, it might work. The boys were horrified at the thought of mixing Disney and Spiderman. They had visions of a cutsie little Spidey toddling around DLR. :rotfl:

That's funny. I was invisioning Spiderman walking around and seeming out of place at Disneyland. I'm worried about Marvel characters ruining DLR and they're worried about Disney ruining the Marvel characters! :rotfl2:

Can you see Spiderman with Mouse Ears? :rotfl: I think if he comes to the parks he should stay over at DCA. And if he stayed there, that leaves the HISTA theater open for something else.

But I wonder if DBIL ( :rotfl: ) is right. I don't know what other characters are with Marvel, but maybe there is one or two that would work well in Tomorrowland.

I also think that the Marvel characters would best fit in over at DCA - I think it would not seem out of place for them to be there at all - and, in fact, that may give DCA yet another boost in attendance if they start integrating Marvel stuff over there. I don't know - I am not a comic book freak like some folks I know, but I don't think it was a bad idea at all for Disney to buy Marvel. I think it was a good business move on both ends. Two titans kind of coming together and joining forces. It doesn't bother me.

Anyway, back to the topic - oh, how I hope we will have seen the last of HISTA. I had gotten tired of Captain EO after a while of it being there, but after enduring HISTA, I am anxious to see Captain EO (with MJ and Angelica Huston, too) return. And after that, hopefully that will pave the way to a new 3D thing there.

:cool1: I'm pretty excited for this. I am a youngster and dont ever remember watching it when i was young. (although being the good disney fan i am, i know all about it and now have the song stuck in my head:rolleyes1) I do however remember my older sister having a stuffed animal of that rat thing with butterfly wings. That was from EO right? She called it rat baby.:lmao:

I could see the classic Marvel characters being a good fit in DCA's Hollywood area...especially after the "Hollywood 1920s/1930s" makeover :thumbsup2

I was telling DH about this announcement last night and his exact words were, "What's Captain EO?" :faint:

I feel like I have been married to a stranger for 11 years...:lmao:

I know this was posted a while back but in my search for 2010 stuff this came up and I couldn't stop laughing :)

I'm a little excited for CE to return even if only for a short time. I was actually a cast member when this was running and worked in TL. Good memories!!

I'm NOT a youngster so I remember CE rather well..."the button...push the red button!" And then leaving the theater and singing, "...you're just another part of me...he he!" LOL!!

My DD is going to be 9 and I can't WAIT to take her and let her enjoy the experience. I'm actually curious as to what she's going to say...LOL!!

Wouldn't mind Mickey's Philharmagic replacing Capt EO when it's run it's course.

I never got to see Captain EO, so I'll look forward to that next year. :thumbsup2

.

FWIW, Disney put Captain EO on the back burner. It is not coming back in January but maybe later in 2010.

Glad you got a laugh out of it! I still can't believe DH didn't know what it was!

:thumbsup2 Thank God! I didn't want the extra crowds in January when my family is planning to go.

And seriously... Captain EO? Are you all really that excited about it? I mean sure, Jacko was huge in the 80's, but c'mon. Are we just supposed to pretend that the last 20 years didn't happen? IMO, a child abuse victim/drug addict singing bad music in a wierd sci-fi video just doesn't fill me with that Disney magic feeling. I don't care how good the 3D is. :confused3

My vote would be to just shut down HISTA and replace it with an entirely new show. Just my $.02

That is part of Disney's concern. No matter how you slice it MJ had a huge cultural impact. And there are a lot of folks who would like to see EO again. I never thought it was that great but HISTA is long in the tooth and it would boost interest for sure.

For more info on Disney's latest plans see this excellent article by the amazingly informed Al Lutz:

Al Lutz has a brief update at the top of today's MA web-site.

Al Lutz says that Captain EO will return to DL in January, and the official announcement should be coming any day now.

The following quote appears at the top of MiceAge:
Editor's Note 11/2: Posted on 11/1: Here we go again... Remember the Captain EO rumor
we told you about months ago? After being pulled at the very last minute during the D23
Expo, the jittery lawyers and Iger himself have been put more at ease, and the
announcement of EO's return to Disneyland in January should be coming any day now.
Despite a less than thrilling $32M domestic open for the "This Is It" rehearsal film, Team
Disney Anaheim is looking at the merch and attendance numbers that EO could drive before
World of Color opens in late April. - Al Lutz (November 1, 2009)

Hope this helps. :earsboy:

If EO returns in January, how long will it play at DL? All of 2010? How limited is the run? :confused3

MJ was not a drug addict. The final autopsy revealed that he was in excellent physical condition and had no other illegal drugs in his system at the time of death. The music is classic. So he was a victim of child abuse. I bet there are many Disney lovers who at one time or another suffered abuse. I wouldn't mind seeing this show back in DL again.
