Official Reopening Date Set for ‘Captain EO’ Featuring Michael Jackson

posted on February 19th, 2010 by Heather Hust Rivera, Manager, Print and Social Media, Disneyland Resort

Since we first announced the return of “Captain EO” on the Disney Parks Blog, there has been an incredible response from fans, and we’ve received many enthusiastic emails and phone calls asking exactly when the classic “Captain EO” attraction featuring Michael Jackson will reopen.

Today, we are excited to give you an update on the Captain’s return!

On Tuesday, February 23, as a tribute to the magic, music and messages of “Captain EO,” the 3-D musical adventure is returning to the Tomorrowland theater in which it debuted. While it’s not possible to replicate some special effects elements from the original presentation, it will boast a new 70mm print of the film, and it will sound better than ever thanks to acoustic enhancements made to the theater since the film last played there in 1997.

Have they mentioned how long they plan on keeping it? I don't know how long their "limited engagement" is. I'd like to plan a trip for December, but I'll go earlier if I have to.

Honestly, I can see them keeping this around for quite awhile. Disney is always saying how out dated Honey I Shrunk the Audience is, and how its not drawing in the people it once did. They say the people who do go are not finding it to live up to expectations as it is very out dated.

Disney even said they are not sure if they are going to bring back Honey I Shrunk the Audience at all. So while Captain EO is under way, I am sure they will see how well this takes off, and in the mean time figure out what to do with Honey I shrunk the Audience or how to update it. But that could take some time, and they are going to want to draw in crowds to see this new show.

I cant see Disneyland shutting down an attraction such as a 3D show for as long as it was down for a major over haul to not keep it around for awhile.

Do you think this opening will have a noticeable effect on crowds, at least past opening weekend?

i think it will draw crowds... absolutely! just go to twitter, and type in captain eo, i'm surprised it isnt a trending topic

That's a good question actually, cause you dont hear a whole lot of advertising on it.

It's on the Yahoo news page for L.A. right now, so I'm guessing that if anyone who might've wanted to go didn't know about it, they will now

First Capt.EO,next the People Mover.

...and then the Rocket Jets get put in their proper place (and lose the makeover that caused them to look like rotating watch guts  )...and then...

...I faint dead away with ecstasy at Tomorrowland being restored (well, pretty much) to the way it was when I was a kid :rotfl:

Who could forget Adventure thru Inner Space?!? I'd want that back too, but Star Tours would have to be worked in there somehow. And the Mary Blair murals...those could come back, too. :thumbsup2
