We are going in the beginning of August, and I'm hoping that Captain E.O. will still be open then??? My 9 y/o daughter is in love with MJ and though she got to see it 3 times back in November, I know she will be dissapointed if its closed by this trip!!!

TIA! :goodvibes

No idea, but I will be disappointed if it is still open when I go back in September. ;)

Oh stop! Michael Jackson never hurt anybody!!! .....:confused3....

While I would dispute your premise... what does that have anything to do with whether people like an attraction or not? It's not a question of whether or not people "approve" of Michael Jackson, but that many people think the movie is dated and lame.

Personally, I have a "take it or leave it" attitude about the Captain EO movie. I remember it had some goofy scenes and some kind of cool scenes when I saw it during it's first run. Last time we went to EPCOT, I convinced my family we should at least go see it once since they never had. They all thought it was really stupid. And it had nothing to do with any perceived scandals that Michael Jackson may have been involved in.

Many people just want to get something NEW in that theatre!

To answer the original question (or not), Disney has made no announcements about if or when Captain EO would close.

I remember it being really cool as a kid. Last time around, 3 years ago, I enjoyed the making-of pre-show. The regular movie though...my husband and I just looked at each other and wondered how we could this time back.

Something new in Epcot would be awesome!

I was surprised by how much I liked it. I thought it was very modern in perspective, and I rank it well above the Muppet 3D movie and It's Tough to be a Bug.

It is sort of a strange thing to keep around for so long, especially since they seemingly brought it back as a "tribute."

I think other than those fountains with the jumping water, the Imagination pavilion is something to pass right on by.

I was only kidding... Maybe if I had done the ;) face that would have been more obvious....
Either way, I'm happy its still there. I LOVED it as a little kid, and now that my daughter loves it too, it gives me even more of a reason to go. :cloud9:

I think the fact that he allegedly had some other personal issues (that we won't discuss here) plays into what peoples perception of what the movie is...

Growing up I was a huge MJ fan, but that obviously changed due to certain circumstances.
I'm all in favor of DISNEY bringing back some things that are classic, but honestly I never did understand this one.:confused3. Other than being able to grab a 35 minute nap in some cool a/c, it doesn't do much more (for me)
Also, I actually enjoyed Honey I shrunk the audience.....It was right in tune with a bunch of other shows that WDW has... Sorry it's just my $.02

Just wanted to re-post a previous post that I put up after our visit in 2013. When we decided we would never visit Captain EO ever again.

In fact, when I talked with an off-duty cast member, he stated that if Disney ever wanted to get rid of him, assign him to work Captain EO.

Here's my original post:

Wanted to share with all of you a fun story about our trip to Disney World - and specifically, Captain EO.

When we entered the ride queue area, we encountered the most seriously working - and for the most part - completely clueless CM employed at the Disney World property.

We entered the area, and she kept chanting to the audience, "FILL IN ALL SPACE! MAKE ROOM FOR EVERYONE TO GET IN!"

Now, this was the busy season - but even my children were rather clued in to the fact that this show was going to have more than a few empty seats.

She then began chastising every guest who wanted to sit or lean anywhere. And when we entered the theater, we were sternly reminded to move all the way down - don't leave ANY open seats!

The pre-show began - and she read - in halting, saccharine faux entusiasm - the pre-show announcements. Even my eight year old began laughing.

Of course, when the show began... All of us began to cringe.

I could see it being re-vitalized some day as a participatory event - much like Rocky Horror bad - in a few years.

But for the rest of the trip, our ongoing joke was that all of the bad employees were to be shuttled off to Epcot to work for MJ....

"Listen, Marjorie. I'm sorry to inform you of this... But we've set some goals, and... We haven't quite reached them... I regret to inform you... That you'll be introducing Captain EO this fall...."

To cut to the chase for the OP, there have only been rumors about Captain EO being removed at this time and no official news has been released. For now it is sticking aorund, and If it were going to be gone by August we would probably know by now.

When they finally do take it down I hope they release a nice Blu-Ray edition with lots of behind-the scenes stuff. I'll buy it!

I keep thinking that this is the perfect attraction for a sort of Jungle Cruise or Rocky Horror Picture Show homage or reverence to its own terrible-ness.

We are going in August also and I was just searching the internet yesterday to try and find this answer for myself! I couldn't find any information about when it will be closing so hopefully it will still be open throughout the year. My family loves MJ too!:goodvibes

It is going to be there forever or at least well into the future. The attraction is no longer sponsored by Kodak so they needed to put something there and EO was an easy fix.

I'm interested in the same question as the OP, but for the opposite reason. I keep hoping they'll put something else in there!

No comment about MJ but Captain EO gave me an almost immediate back-of-the-head headache. And it hurt. A lot.

I agree 100%. Captain EO is painful to sit through, in more ways than one. And personally, I can't get over the "MJ creepy factor". I know others disagree and that is fine.
