From reading threads on the DIS...I got the impression that Captain
Cook's was going to be in the temporary location until December. Tikiman gave this info I believe.

So many other Disney info sites say that it will be renovated by September 15th.

Does anyone know for sure what the ET is for the finished rehab? I'm going September 29th, and I would be overjoyed if I am able to get my mug and free refills on my Diet Coke!! :thumbsup2

Forgive me if this has already been covered...I tried a search on the topic and the most recent thread I found was the beginning of July.

TIA

Polynesian Resort

Captain Cook's 24-hour counter service closed June 19, 2006 for a rehab through September 15, 2006. Tangaroa Terrace will operate during this time with a limited menu. No refillable mugs will be sold or refilled here during the rehab.

Ongoing rehab of individual longhouses continues

I read that it would be about 6 months (maybe from the Tikiman website?), and I'll tell you that we were there about 2 weeks ago, and I can't imagine it being all finished by September. They had just closed the downstairs bathrooms in the GCH during our trip (they were open one day, closed the next) and the whole outside was being refurbished as well. I think the renovations are more extensive than previously expected. It seemed that the whole thing is being gutted, a kitchen added, and major changes are going on. But the temporary location is really fine with decent choices for food and really not so bad.

I just returned from 8 days at the Polynesian. I honestly don't think Disney knows how long it will take and do not want to give a definite answer. While there, we got 3 different answers from CM's. The front desk told us Sept, a manager told us probably December, and another CM told us Oct. None of them seemed overly confident in their answers. the Tangaroa Terrace is not bad, it's just a bit inconvenient - no refillable mugs and only one line for all transactions. Meaning if you wanted to buy a container of milk you were stuck on the same lines as families ordering lunch for 6 people. As you remember at Captain Cooke's, you ordered first then paid. i'm definitely looking forward to the refurbishment being finished. Even though, still the best hotel in the world.
