Capt Jacks questions

After looking at the menu on Debs site, I was wondering if there were any restrictions with the appetizers and entrees under the disney dining plan? And whoever has been there recently what did you order that you liked/disliked.
Thanks a bunch!

We went there once in 2004 and we give it an "Eh" rating. My local Red Lobster was better and we won't be visting there again. Now, if you want really good seafood, try Fulton's Crab House. I had the best crab of my life there.

run as fast as you can to fulton's. do not stop at captain jack's. there are many on the boards who enjoy jack's, but there are many who avoid it at all costs. if you are wanting seafood not necessarily in the DTD area you might want to consider flying fish on the boardwalk. very good. :earboy2:

We thought Captain Jack's was great. We had two people order the Pasta Primevera, one had the ribs and another had the twin lobster tails. For dessert two passed, one had vanilla ice cream and I had some kind of dessert that had liquor in it.

The waitress was very quick and efficient and told us that there were no restrictions on what you could get. The one exception was that if you wanted to add on the shrimp you either had to skip dessert or pay extra. This was really no big deal to us. Yes, Captain Jack's is on the dining plan.

I don't know why so many people don't like it because I find it quite nice. I have eating at better places but by no means is it a dump. The food is very good and done to perfection. I guess people like comparing it to Fulton's which really isn't fair. A restaurant should be judged on its own merit and not on other restaurants performance.

If the restaurant was so bad than there would not be bumper to bumper people trying to get in. I went the first two weeks after Labor day so if the lines to get in were long the food can't be that bad.

The only thing I didn't like was my dessert because it was way too rich and the alchol must have been 100% proof because it cleared my sinuses right away!

I'd go to a McD's for a filet o'fish before eating at Captain Jack's. You'd get better seasfood anyway. There are those that like CJ but those folks don't know their seafood! LOL! Don't just eat somewhere because it's on the dining plan. If you don't want to spend the money on Fulton's the I would just chose somewhere else then CJ. Edited to comment on the poster that said CJ is bumper to bumper to get in. I have never seen a line to CJ. We go to DtD quite bit. I have read over and over how folks didn't want to wait for Rain Forest and found that CJ had no line what so ever. That tells a lot if you ask me.

We ate at Cap'n Jacks on the dining plan. Fulton's is NOT on the plan. We put our name in (hour wait) and then did a little shopping until it was time to return. Then we checked in and waited about 5 minutes for our table.

Service was very slow, but the food was fine. We had shrimp cocktail (ok), crabcakes (decent) and salad for apps. Our entres included the lobster tail (good) and seafood pasta (good). The other entre was a child's meal. For dessert we had cheesecake and key lime pie, which were both very good.

We ate here in Jan and loved it. I ordered lobster husband ordered sirloin and we split it was wonderful. I didn't like the horseradish sauce on the steak get on the side.

For kids they had a chicken breast so it was healthier for them. I was glad they ate somehting not fried

I notice that most folks that like Cap'n Jacks don't live near a bay or ocean. If you don't live near the water then you might be able to stomach the place. To me, it's a dive.

I know a lot of people bash it, but we've eaten at CNJ's several times and never had a problem. Try it!

I wonder if the people that don't like CJ's ate there quite some time ago and it's possible that it is better now? We are planning on trying it in March since Fulton's is not on the dining plan.

We ate there in Sept and were pleasantly surprised. I know it gets alot of mixed reviews here in the Dis, but the night we went we received excellent food and service. We showed up, put our names down, and was told it would be about 45 minutes. It was closer to an hour, but we had requested a window seat and got it. They were crowded by the way. I know it increased her tip, but the waitress was wonderful making sure we maximized the meal with the dining plan. We all ordered steaks and she offered free lobster add ons, (the only time they were offered all week). My son doesn't eat lobster, so she told him to order it and give it to his dad which he did. She never let our glasses get below half full. We split the meal and had the bread, crab cakes, a tomato stack appetizer thingy, two steaks, two lobster tails, veggies, cheesecake, and some other dessert, which I forget right now. It was all good.

To answer your other question, there were no restrictions for the meal plan.

I didn't like Captain Jacks at all. I paid more there then I did at Le Celliers (which was great).

Captain Jacks food was not that great and the atmosphere was nothing to write home about.

The menu was very limited and the prices were high for a casual restaurant. I don't mind paying, but it just wasn't worth it. Go to Fultons which isn't cheap but at least you get what you pay for.
