It came to my attention today that there will be a 5K ran on the first day of my Disney vacation in Sept. The Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run. I am not a runner, actually I hate the thought of running, unless a tiger or something is chasing me. I am stuck in a funk, of the 70 lbs I took of a couple of years ago, 30 are back. I am a little disgusted with myself. Am I crazy to use this as motivation? Being able to say I finished a run Disney event, with the super cool t-shirt and medal. I know I won't do it on my own, and though my husband is my biggest supporter :woohoo: this isn't his battle, it's mine.

What do you think, I mean hey, I will be there. Can I look at this as fate? Disney really loves me so much that it wants me to be healthier so one day I too can become a CM? LOL I know, that is a long shot, but it seems a little too perfect in timing.

First, I love the name of the thread...

You can do whatever you put your mind and heart to! If you don't think just getting up and getting out there to run/walk, then maybe try doing Couch 2 5k or a Galloway plan. A lot of people have been really successful with those plans.

Good luck! And no, I don't think you're crazy!

Oh yeah, it is fate and you should listen. But be careful or the next thing you know, you'll be signed up for a half. ;)

Even though you don't like running now, you might be surprised how much fun it can be. Take it slow and follow a running plan. Many walk or walk/run the Disney races. You can do the same if you find that running is just not your thing.

Good luck and let us know how you are progressing!

After a little more thoughtful planning, I won't be able to do this. There is no way for me to pick up my packet the day before the race, and since we are not going to be pulling into Disney until around 4 or 5 in the morning, I won't be rested at all. I don't do well sleeping on the road, I'm afraid my husband will fall asleep driving and kill us all. LOL I know a little dramatic, but I can't help it.

So, I won't be able to participate unless my husband takes Friday off work and we leave Thurs night and drive half way, then pull in on Fri. I do not see this happening. :( BOOOOO! This kinda sucks.

You can authorize someone else to pick up your packet, in case that helps....

While it is true that a good night's sleep is important, you might just find your adrenaline gets you through the race. I had only 3 hours of sleep prior to the WDW in January. While it wasn't my best race, it wasn't my worst either. I felt good after the race and my fatigue didn't stop me from walking through EPCOT for the rest of the day. :)

erinna is right; you can authorize someone to pick it up for you. In fact, I'm running the ToT 10 miler so I could pick it up for you. I'm happy to drop it off at your resort. Just let me know if you change your mind.
