DH wants to eat at either Cap'n Jacks or Fultons on our upcoming trip. Which has the better food? Which is more fun for kids? Any views/advice would be appreciated!!!

Never eaten at Cap't Jack's, But Fulton's was by far the best meal of our trip. Although it was very expensive, ($160.00 for two, before tip, with two adult beverages each). It was not stuffy or snobby so I think kids would be fine there. We both had the king crab leg - lobster tail combo and they were out of this world. We had a window table that looked out over the lagoon towards the Rain Forest Cafe.

Run far, far away from Capt Jack's. It's proabbly the worst restaurant in WDW. I'd rather eat cold french fries. If necessary, stay for drinks, then leave.

i agree w/sotoalf....run don't walk to fulton's. stay far far away from captn jack's. :earboy2:

Never been to Fulton's , wasn't impressed with Capt Jacks', don't remeber it being a great choice for kids'

I guess I am just the opposite of most. We found Fulton's to be mediocre and certainly not worth the money. We enjoyed the potatoes...which is sad since we ordered the lobster/crab experience for two. We will not eat there again.

Been to both, completely unimpressed with Jack's (in a review here I said mashed potatoes were of TGIFriday's or any other chain restaurant quality). We have really enjoyed Fulton's in the past though.

Does it really have to be one of these two??
IF so, then Fultons. The food is good, but OH the service!!!

Well, it doesn't HAVE to be, but DH wants to try a DTD sit-down restaurant that we haven't tried yet, and these are the only two that fit that category. I was also leaning towards Fultons b/c DD 8 is a big fan of crab legs, and I thought that she might enjoy eating them on the "big boat." Thanks to everyone for their responses.

Hi, wintergreen! I just down I-95 from you! In fact, I eat up there a lot. I'd pick Fulton's. We have eaten there every year we've been there since 2000 (3 or 4x) and will eat there again this year. I've never eaten @ Capt'n Jacks because we love Fulton's, but by what others are saying I don't know if I'd want to go there. The atmoshphere is nice @ Fulton's. Like someone else said it's not stuffy or snobby. It IS expensive. We usually drop around $150 for DH, Myself, and DD (9) and it'll be more because my other DD (2) will eat of the menu too this year. Sometimes it's higher depending on alcohol. I've had stone crab appt. there (not in season during the summer, though), king crab claws (to die for) the lobster & king crab claws combo, and DH had Crab cakes (absolutely nasty, he said), FIL had filet (excellent, he said) and DD had fries shrimp (the best she's had, according to her..and I liked it too). We never get dessert because we are too full and well..for all that $$$ we feel we can't leave any on the plate! ;) I have seen a lot of kids there and last years our were 8 and 13 months. They don't have characters or fun activities (except crayons probably), but we always take a few little things for the young one. I would not suggest sitting outdoors. We had a nice window seat last year, but a storm came by and all the stuff got soaked out there (no one was out there) but it was neat to watch and we had a nice view of Rainforest and SSR. They have good seafood and we always had great and attentive service, but others have not. But it's like that with everything..some people like it, some don't. If i go there this year and have a bad experience, I will make sure to speak with the manager about it, but I have enough confidence in this place to go there again and drop that kind of money. But that's me.

My DD (9 this year) loves crab legs, too! In fact I always have to share mine with her! So she gives me some shrimp and I give her a few legs or a claw. Right across from DTD (down Hotel PLaza Blvd.) there's a Joe's Crab Shack (it used to be the Crab House (there was one up in Fairfax there, too..by Fair Lakes)..they have Snow Crab as well and are cheaper. If you go out Hotel PLaza Blvd straight through the light into that shopping center..it's all the way in the back near Hooters.) But if you want to stay @ DTD..Fulton's all the way.

Thanks for the full review pbharris! I see from a post in another forum that you will be at SSR at the same time that we will be at VWL. Maybe we'll see you at Fultons!

I had been to Fultons along time ago and it was good. I went to Capt Jacks
not in Disney but in Atlanta and a terrible service. The food was ok but it took an hour for our waitor to come to us. He was just cleaning the table
across from us and kept smiling at us. :confused3 We has already decided
way before what we wanted and tried to get him over.We felt bad for the party that sat next to us. :earseek:

I may be wrong but when we were at DTD last week, it looked like Cap'n Jack's was gone. Your decision may have already been made for you. I definitely know there was construction on the whole area to the left of Portabello Yacht Club. I thought that's where Cap'n Jack's was, but now I'm not sure. In any case, I've always thought to steer clear since I've heard awful reviews. We had one meal at Fulton's and the food was okay but the service was weird (I don't know how else to describe it). What about the Wolfgang Puck's sit-down restaurant. His food is generally wonderful. Good luck!

Thanks. We ate at Wolfgang Puck's our last two trips (once by ourselves "Upstairs," and once with the kids and some friends downstairs). I think that we will go ahead and try Fulton's this time. I'll post a review when we return.

Maybe we will bump into you! Our Ps's are for Tuesday 7/19 @ 5:30pm. Hope you have a wonderful trip and make sure to post your report! :)

ditto what MrsTink said...exactly! we had the same dinner....$70 for some scrawny crab legs and watery, teeny lobster. I still feel violated by that meal! And the service? UGH! I will never eat there again!

Fulton's over Captn Jacks. I would vote for Puck's across from the Virgin Megastore. That's a quality place. :earsboy:

We love Fulton's. The food melts in your mouth. The cold seafood appetizer with the shrimp and crab legs is delicious! My husband also likes the Australian Lobster Tail Meal. If you like salmon, but dont see it on the menu, just ask. They made me up a special serving of salmon. It was great. Make sure you make advanced reservations if you are going at a busy time.

Enjoy!

I totally agree with this.....and let me elaborate even further........for you to even think the food at Capt Jack's is mediocre.......you must be very, very, very intoxicated. ;)
