I opened an account with Capital One a few years ago so I would have a bank in New Orleans.
I made regular automatic deposits and occasional ATM withdrawals. I have several thousand dollars in the account. I wrote a check two weeks ago - and THEY BOUNCED IT!!!!!!!!! And even if they had honored the check I would still have had a lot of money in the account.
I am beyond livid. When I finally got someone on the phone they said it would be about 5 business days before they could release the funds - which have been there for MONTHS.
This has caused me no end of trouble. I am having a major remodel done of my condo in Little Rock. When the check bounced the work stopped. Now I am probably facing another month of living out of a suitcase.
Capital One was also once known as the bottom feeder of the credit card industry. They were one of the first to offer credit to people with really bad credit and then they charged outrageous fees. Ten or 15 years ago when we used to see someone with a Capital One credit card it was easy to make the assumption that they were a deadbeat with bad credit. (not true today so don't be offended if you have a card now).
