Hi! I was wondering if anyone has been to Cape May, NJ. My family and I will be going there for a weekend in May and we were wondering about good hotels in the area. Thanks for any help!
Megan

I can't recommend hotels but I know there are a number of nice bed and breakfasts. It's a beautiful town. I hope you enjoy yourself.

I planned a trip there (never made it) but the Jersey tourism website had lot's of good info as well as the Cape May website. Lot's of Victorian B&B's to choose from. A larger seaside hotel that interested me was the Congress Hall Hotel. They have their own website also. If I was to go, I think I would stay there. My sister went 2 summers ago (I forgot the name of the B&B she stayed at) and loved the town. Have a great time! :)

At Cape May, we stayed the last couple of summers at the Periwinkle Inn. The kids loved the pool. Easy walk to the beach across the street. :)

I stopped there on the way to wildwood NJ one year and went to a great little zoo there!

We spend alot of time in Cape May every summer. Not sure about any major hotels, but there are a ton of inns and b & b's. Most beautiful one, IMO is The Mainstay Inn. Absolutely Gorgeous.
Tons of great restaurants too. If its warm, definitly go to Jackson Mountain and sit outside and eat. There is also a great italian restaurant right on the main strip. Have a great time!

Cape May is a wonderful place. I visit there several times a year and even got married there. There are not really any major hotels there (like Sheratons, etc.). There are many B&B's, guest apartments, and smaller hotels. Check out www.capemay.com.

My family ADORES Cape May - we went there every summer when i was little. For a cheap, but convenient motel, we stayed at the Victorian which is right across from the outside mall. We stayed at the Beach Comber (or something of that nature - the Rusty Nail restraunt was attached) and didn't like it at all. Last year we stayed at the place next to the aforementioned Perriwinkle (though the name is escaping me at the moment) and really liked it. :) It's such a great town!! You'll absolutely love it. :)

Another vote for Periwinkle Inn....and my sister stays at a very nice condo place with ocean views. Be sure to go to The Washington Inn if you want to treat yourself to a fantastic meal!

I agree that the Mainstay Inn is absolutely beautiful. You will have a great time.

yes the cape may zoo is a must do. It's wonderful and free.
Free, but they solicit donations, so be prepared going in. You can give as much or as little as you want to. It's a great zoo.

I stay at the Inn of Cape May, its right on the beach. They have a nice restaurant too.

Wife & I went down last year for a long weekend and had a blast. I would also recommend a bed & breakfast, one thing of note though most of them don't allow kids. You mentioned family but not sure what that means.

There's very little parking around so I would recommend that once you find a parking spot don't give it up. We rented bikes for 3 days and biked everywhere. Make sure you go down to sunset beach for a sunset, it's a great view and they have a flag lowering that is very cool.

I can't help you much with the where to stay questions since I only live about 10 miles away, but I second the recommendation for the Jackson Mountain Cafe (outside) for a good informal meal. Peter Shields or Washington Inn are great for a more formal (read: expensive) meal. My boss had his wedding reception dinner at Peter Shields  (guess that's why there wasn't a great raise for us :rotfl: ). Lobster House is still rebuilding from a fire I think, but if they have it done by the summer it's a well liked place by the locals for seafood.

The Cape May County Park and Zoo does solicit donations but please don't think they are at all pushy about it. There is a parks department worker (or sometimes a senior citizen volunteer) at the booth out front and they will wave hello, hand you a brochure and will be holding a bucket that you can throw a buck into if you feel like it. No obligation, but we appreciate the help :teeth: .

PM me if you would like me to pick up some free papers and stuff from in town. I'd be happy to mail them to you.
