I think we will be trying dinner here on our April trip. Being that we are from New England do you think we will be disappointed? My husband really loves steamed clams!

My wife said it was pretty good. She was a gourmet cook and from Stamford, CT.

It's not an elaborate seafood buffet like perhaps some hotels are with their Sunday brunches. As I recall, the clams are steamed and in garlic butter; there were also peel and eat shrimp, mussels and a broiled fish (both times I have eaten there it was salmon). They also had a good clam chowder. For another $10 or $12 I think you can get a bucket of crab legs.

Plus they have the traditional clam bake add-ons like boiled red potatoes and corn on the cob. When I went they also had carved prime rib roast, baked chicken, pork spareribs, a beef stir fry of sorts and several side dishes/ veggies to choose from. And a GREAT dessert buffet! Yum. I would recommend it although some people don't think it's so great. For kids they also have hot dogs, chicken strips, mac and cheese and 1 other choice.

I made PS for Cape MAy for the dinner buffet for my family. There will be about 17 of us. We have also never eaten there but have had good reports from some friends who stayed at Old Key West. We have never been to the Boardwalk area. We are all staying on site & different hotels, can we park at the Boardwalk and then go to Epcot after Dinner without having to move our cars. Alos, is there entertainment at night on the boardwalk. 9 of the 17 people are kids. Would be nice to walk around with them. Any insight would be great. 39 days to go

Hello,
I would not recommend Cape May Clam Bake to anyone who is from the New England area, especially Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, or NH! The seafood portion of this buffet is not worthy to be called seafood! The shrimp look like small prawns and are swimming in warm water with shells on, not what a "New Englander" calls Peel and Eat Shrimp. The clams do not resemble fresh dug clams that are meaty with the bellies on. They almost look like mussels! The fish is not fresh tasting either, including the salmon which is overbaked and dry. There are other threads on this website with similar remarks. I read them before hand too, and decided to try iCape May for myself and I was truly dissapointed. Save your money and go to another restaurant. Florida is not know for it's seafood! If you must have some kind of fish, try Califonia Grill or Flying Fish Cafe. The "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2005" book by Bob Sehlinger is a great resource for many things including restaurants. Stick to a 4 star restaurant if you plan on eating seafood at Disney. I am from Southern NH and can understand what your expectations will be.Cape May is a good option for breakfast!

I called a month ago, and they no longer have the carved roast beef. I also was disappointed when they started cooking the clams and mussels in the garlic butter. They were so much better the other way. If we go again, I am going to ask if they can cook some clams and mussels for me, without the garlic butter... I am sensitive to garlic, and it literally made me sick.:(

Before I saw cbsprings post, I was planning to recommend Cape May but that's a good point about being from New England area. Us folks from the Midwest really enjoyed it though back in Nov, '04. Clam chowder was delicious. My picky DD (8) who will barely eat a piece of fruit had two helpings! My husband said it was his favorite buffet that trip. We also did 1900 Park Fare for Cindy dinner & H&V for Fantasmic dinner pkg (which I will never do again). More on seafood - we tried Coral Reef on our '02 trip and out of our party of 14 - only one thought it was worth the $$$.

Is it a true New England Clambake? No. But the food is quite good. It is true that the clams and mussels are not as meaty as some I had when living in New England, but they were still quite tasty. Same with the peel and eat shrimp. I have eaten probably a dozen buffets at Disney and I think Cape May Cafe is probably the best buffet I have eaten at, especially the dessert buffet (take away the dessert buffet, and I think I would pick the Biergarten, LOL).

We are from NE and enjoy the clam bake. It is not gourmet seafood but we enjoy all the offerings here. I'm sorry to hear they have done away with the carved roast beef though! We will probably still give it a try next time. Hopefully it has not gone downhill.

I was there a month ago and they did have the carved roast beef. It was December 13.

We were there in December, and there were more than mussels, clams, peel and eat shrimp. The buffet also included pizza, fried chicken, bbq ribs , (although my DH preferred the WL ribs), corn on the cob (not as good) beef roast (?brisket or flank?) and yummy clam chower. Plus, the desserts were really good too. I would eat there again! :Pinkbounc

I have never been but I would like to respond to the comment that said Florida is not known for fresh seafood. That is simply inaccurate. While clams do not come from FL Oysters do in the R months. Stone Crab claws are another FL specialty as well as Yellowtail snapper which you will find at some Disney Restaurants. Red snapper can be Gulf or S.American and I always ask where its from. Like any buffet food quality suffers as it sets, especially shellfish which is unpleasant if overcooked. Watch for what is being replenished and take what's fresh. If your from New England I suspect that any seafood buffet could be a dissapointment.

when I went, they were advertisign it as a new england clamback, it was not. it was quohogs and mussles(which I didnt mind, but it wasnt steamers or a new england clambake). last time I looked at the menu, it now says that the 'clams' are made in some kind of tomato sauce... I dont think many new englanders would care for it. :flower1:

I thought it was quite good when we went but iIdid not have much of the seafood. My husband is from Maine and he was NOT impressed with the seafood at all.
We are not going back to eat there this next trip.
I will say the the oreo bon bons are VERY yummy there!!!!!
