Cape May Clambake--Anyone Tried It?

There are really only a few true seafood offerings, so it's not comparable to any real seafood restaurant in New England. (Even Red Lobster has many more seafood choices than Cape May) For those who just want to eat fish, it probably seems a lot better. Most of the offerings would only be considered appetizers in a New England restaurant (steamers - clams & mussels -, clam chowder, and cold unpeeled shrimp, - what's up with that?) They have one actual cooked fish ofering, but again not what you'd expect from a legitimate seafood restaurant but more along the lines of a buffet offering.

They do have the standard buffet meat selections and veggies as well. For those who enjoy quantity, it will do the trick but there's nothing overly special about the food preparation in general. Adequate - not great, but not bad.

We've done Cape May before and would probably do it again. But we don't go there for good seafood, just for a Disney meal.

We have gone the past two trips and intend to go back this year in December. I agree that the actual "seafood" choices are limited, but I like the variety of other items as well as the desserts. Of the seafood, I only tried the shrimp last time, and it was great. There are plenty of other items to fill up on. We have had good, but not great, service in the past. I like the convenience and location of Cape May enough to go back again.

Michellekl, please try not to let reviews sway you...I feel that everyone has their own opinion...I had heard such bad things about Tony's and I personally liked it...then i heard rave things about WCC and I hated it...so to each his own...
If you have ADR's and feel like the buffet items are things you'd enjoy I'd keep it on your list and try it out...if there is somewhere else that you've been eyeing that you can trade it with then switch...But based on reviews--hmm I'm not so sure about canceling...
Put it this way---like another poster said , it was my LONGEST wait after check in--over 45 minutes! That is because they were SO busy--and busy to me usually means a good place ;)

You know what?! You are right. I think I jumped the gun a little, I won't let this sway me. I picked our ADRs based on their menus, and Cape May looked like something my husband & I would enjoy (especially that Oreo Bonbon!) so we will be sticking to it. Thanks!

We were staying at Beach, had to switch our ADR from Coral Reef to Cape May because my granddaughter got ill and we were afraid to go back into Epcot with her.

Overall disappointed in Cape May. The boiled shrimp had absolutely no seasoning. ( I am used to cajun seasonings, I guess. ). The clam chowder was bad also. But my 4 year grandson really enjoyed getting the clams out of their shells and the corn on the cob.

We probably won't waste another TS there though in the future.

We spent Thanksgiving in WDW back in '05. My dad and step-mom winter in Pompano Beach, so drove up to spend a day with us, the day after Thanksgiving. My dad has some pretty severe hearing issues, so I wanted to find someplace to eat that wouldn't be so loud he couldn't hear anything. Since we were at BWV, we opted for Cape May. My dh had always wanted to give the Clam Bake a try so I figured what the heck. We are NewEnglanders, Boston area, with ties to the Cape, so most of us (not me) love seafood. However, we all thought it was over-rated. Now, the family sitting behind us didn't feel that way. The men in that group must have gone up to the buffet at least 5 times...it was so funny. I can't remember what it was they had but whatever it was was loaded with garlic. The poor wife. She actually apologized for her ds and dh...said they don't normally eat that way, but were just loving it there!!! It was really funny. Although my dad was able to hear pretty well, I was a bit disappointed that he grabbed the bill to pay it. I wish it could have been a better meal that he treated us to. I think he felt that way also.
We have gone to Goofy's Breakfast many times, and do feel that the quality of the food has gone downhill over the years. We are giving it one last shot in August. If it isn't any better, we will be finding a new spot for our 'leaving WDW' day breakfast.
But, there are plenty of folks that love the Clam Bake. I guess everyone should try whatever place they are inclined to try. If it's good, wonderful..go back. If not, well, at least you tried it out.

It's one of the top picks here.
