We are staying at the BCV in November with the DDP and I thought the Cape May clambake sounded really convenient. Is it good? We are New Englanders and have pretty high standards when it comes to beachside clambakes!

Your last sentance gives you your answer. While the clam bake is good, to you it would be the same as eating at a Red Lobster. To someone who almost never gets seafood, it would be a great experience.

A follow New Englander here...:scared1: we hated it:scared1: ! CM does not compare to anything we are used to.

A suggestion for good restaurants:thumbsup2 close to BCV would be Spoodles at the boardwalk, Rose & Crown or LeCellier in the World Showcase of Epcot. Any of these are a short boat ride or walk away.

I've got to agree with the other posters here. Since you're from New England, you'll be disappointed.

It's kind of like my wife, who is from the heart of cajun country, won't even try any "cajun" food here in New England.

Just throwin' in my 2cents here.....we're from the Chesapeake crab area, and while it no longer offers crab legs on the menu, we HIGHLY enjoy this restaurant. It is on our dining list EVERY trip.....a never MISS for us.

Hey, they have ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT shrimp, so what's not to luv
:thumbsup2

Sorry but this is a must-miss for us. For people who live at the shore, we enjoy better seafood all the time and don't miss this one at all.

Living on the Cape.....it is difficult to grade this clambake. I think they do a decent job, maybe not what we are used to as New Englanders, but a decent job. I know they are working on making it the best it can be and hopefully we will see some changes to the menu maybe making it more authentic...

I agree with Mackey Mouse. You can't go there thinking this is a true New England Clam Bake like the ones we have here on the beach. IT's just not. But it is good. We like it and we are from the North Shore. But I wouldn't even try to compare it to the real thing. That is kinda unfair to do.

Give it a try since you are at the BC and just go with the proper expectations you would at any buffet.

LIVING ON THE COAST OF MAINE PIPING IN HERE....
we are trying it in sept and will do a review.

we were sceptical, but figured, try it once.:surfweb:

I think you've gotten your answer.

Honestly, the restaurant is just OK, it wasn't horrible. They had some good things.... I remember that the Clam Chowder, Ceasars salad, and the deserts they offereded were very good, but as seafood goes...... it was just Red Lobster at best.

A previous poster mentioned the all you can peel and eat shrimp, it was all you can eat but you won't eat very much of it.

If you are going for the expectation of great seafood, you will certainlly be disappointed.

If you think Red Lobster is a good seafood restaurant, you'll love the place. The quality of the seafood is very similar to what Red Lobster has to offer, but it definitely can't compare to a fine New England or New Jersey Seafood restaurant.

I am from New England too but am not a seafood person. This is the best! We love the food, DH is a littleneck clam fan and he loves it. The ribs, cornbread and roasted chicken is to die for. There are a ton of choices and they are all very good, the dessert table is yummy too!

Since we stumbled upon this place in Feb we make it a point to eat here on every trip.

There is not much seafood, just clams and musssels, fish of the day (in Feb it was salmon and in April it was fried talapia) and clam chowder...it is mostly "regular" food.

Spend my summers in Cape Cod (only 20 minutes away from Buzzard's Bay) and while it isn't amazing seafood I thought it was pretty good...I didn't have a great time as I was still stuffed from lunch so it was hard to judge fully, but we are giving it another go . I have seen very mixed reviews here, but if I went by them all the time I would have missed out on some of my FAVORITE dining experiences.

As a Kansan, we thought it was great, but nothing like the seafood we got on the coast when my DH was in the Marines. We loved both the Clambake, and the breakfast was great, we probably preferred the breakfast, so that is an option for convience, and would still give you the experience without the disapointment:)

We always make it a must do, any time we visit Disney. We love seafood and feels that it is a step above Red Lobster, plus...the all you can eat. What else can I say...all you can eat. I think my record was 8 heaping bowls full of clams. Even though they have plenty of other food....I go for the clams. Mussels, fish and oysters we get plenty of in Houston/Galveston Gulf coast area.....but not clams in a buttery, garlic broth!!!!

Try it once...you never know until you try.:thumbsup2

I was disappointed with Cape May. It used to be really good. My best friend raved about the fights that went on in security to do the mystery shop here. There was no crab even though the picture in the elevator showed crab legs. There is a lot of just average american food. I really would not recomend it to a New Englander. The service was bad. We had to practically attack our waitress to get more drinks. Also we waited over an hour past our ADR to be seated.

We do this meal every visit and love it, but we're from the midwest. We tend to skip the steak places on vacation, though, as they just don't live up. ;)

We ate therewhen we were living in Missouri, and loved it. Since then, we have moved to the east coast. Went back there, and found it does not hold a candle to the seafood we can get here locally.

It's a once every other visit restaurant. I really like the New England Clam Chowder, the mussels and the littleneck clams. The last time we were there, in April, the prime rib was wonderful. DH really enjoys the peel and eat shrimp and then he takes meat and veggies.

The cornbread is a favorite for me as well. Neither of us particularly like the deserts. DH usually takes something and is disappointed, I just skip it, the cornbread is my desert! He likes the taffy that the waitress gives, so I give him mine as well.

We liked it well enough to go back again this year. But we have 2 preschoolers and buffets just work well for us at this point. We are from Texas and love our gulf seafood but CM is a very different experience. Now San Angel Yuck!

Worst meal ever at WDW! Being from New Orleans we know good seafood, not quite as knowledgable on clambakes as many previous posters, but we would not return!
