We are plqanning our trip and wonder if a dinner at the Cape May Cafe would be worth the time and money?

Karen and Jamie:jester:

is well worth the visit (in my opinion)!

We have this on our perpetual "DO NOT MISS" list every time we visit. The staff is great and the food is too! If you love steamed clams bring your appetite. You can eat buckets and buckets of them if you like. Also muscles, salmon, bbq ribs, and a great desert table. Kids enjoy the "make you own cupcake" toppings.

Just my $0.02

I have been twice, both in 2003, and found it well worth the time & money. Great selection of food- ribs, chicken, prime rib, mussels, clams, baked fish (salmon both times I went), rice, potatoes, bread (big doughy rolls- yum!), Tons of salads, corn on the cob, and the best dessert array that I have seen at Disney- cheesecake, key lime pie, several chocolate confections, cookies, cupcakes, oreo bon bons (YUM), flan....it was great! For an extra $10 or $12 you can get a bucket of crab legs too!

We've been about 10 times since they opened in '90 and will be going again in June for my DD's 9th bday. We've always had a great meal. A must do on our list.

Just back from WDW. Previously this was my favorite restaurant but this time it was not as nice as in past years. Instead of serving all the desserts precut on their own plates so that guests help themselves...they set the entire pie, cake etcetera out for guests to help themselves. People made messes of all the desserts by helping themselves to the middle and leaving the outside for others to have. No one wants to eat the outside of a piece of pie or the remants of a slize of cake. Hope they figure out how important making the dessert bar appetizing is or this place is really going to fall in the ratings. For a while there was no dessert you could have left on the bar that was not just remains from someone elses food fest. This place used to be exquisite! Made me sad.:( :earsboy:

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Over rated as we are concerned............................average food.........OK service................."all you care to eat" though.........

Our family can 'take it or leave it'..............

Everyone should try this once. I've never had a bad meal here - their clam chowder in particular is wonderful - but some would balk at the possible sanitation issues in exposing all that seafood in the open air. You get your money's worth definitely.

Faithful - with all due respect, I don't see how the condition of the dessert tray ruins the total experience. I've seen this at other non-WDW buffet restaurants and while it's certainly unsightly did it sour your evening?. Unless something else went wrong.

I particularly like this restaurants desserts...of which all this trip I could find was the outer edge of a cream pie. Seriously there was not a single dessert that had not been trampled. Even remaining cookies were broken. Felt like I was eating the remains of the dessert someone else already ate.

I always like to comment when I see a Cape May thread as we have always had such a wonderful time there. The food excellent and the CM's absolutely some of the best on property. They've treated my kids like the prince and princess they are. Plus it's so clean I mean everywhere is clean but this place is amazing, even the bathroom is unbelievable. Worth the effort plus when you come out in the evening and it's dark it's so nice walking around the area.

I keep getting cape may confused w/ beaches n cream.

Can someone set me straight?? Also, how do u get to both of these in the morning (walk thru epcot?)
::yes:: ::MinnieMo

We are really looking forward to trying CM for the first time during our upcoming trip in July.:D

Oreo bon-bons!!!

For a chocolate lover, these are worth going for even if everything else isn't that good. But the rest is good too, IMO.

Huh....both times we went, the dessert bar was immaculate...there was a young CM working her tail off making sure everything was refilled, and putting the serving utensils back correctly, etc. Guess it was an off night.

At any all you can eat place, ritzy buffet or Disney, there is bound to be a point where the food needs to be replenished.

The difference between Cape May and Beaches and Cream is this:

Cape May serves both breakfast (a character one) and dinner. It is all you can eat buffet style. It is a large restaurant right off the lobby of the Beach Club. You can make a Priority Seating up to 90 days in advance. It's a little pricey for dinner- about $24, but includes seafood, meats, salads and desserts. (plus a lot of other goodies!)

Beaches and Cream is very small (from what I understand...have yet to go in)- has maybe 12-15 tables and a bar to sit at (someone correct me if I am wrong here. It serves lunch and dinner- lots of burgers, hot dogs, maybe some salads and sandwiches, and it's main treat is ICE CREAM. Lots of different sundaes, malts, milshakes. No PS is available, and long waits can ensue. You can see the menus at both restaurants at www.allearsnet.com

:sunny:

Beaches and Cream is known for it's prime rib sandwich and kitchen sink ice cream treat. The kitchen sink will serve an entire family and is served in a. kitchen sink bowl. :D We ate at Beaches and Cream twice last week. Both times the wait looked long but surprisingly we were sat with a party of 9 pretty quickly.

Cape May Clam Bake Dinner was our #1 favorite restaurant in July 2003, both for food and service. It is an absolute 'must do' this coming trip - we are also planning a character breakfast in addition to dinner. I know breakfast also gets great reviews - anyone been?

I just had a friend come back from WDW this week raving about CMCB telling us we had to go. If I went to the dessert bar and there was something I wanted to try but it had been decimated, I would just talk to my server. I've eaten at the breakfast two times and they have always been overly accomodating. Just because you're at a buffet, doesn't mean you can't make a reasonable request of your server. On the flip side, just because you're at a buffett doesn't mean you don't have to take care of your server either!!!::yes::

DH & I stayed at the BC a few years ago but didn't get the chance to try Cape May. For our upcoming trip with the family we have PS for both breakfast and dinner. I'm happy to hear continuing good reviews!!!! :teeth:

Cape May Cafe is our all time favorite Disney restaurant! We make a trip over to the beach club for this one on every trip. I can't wait to go this July!!!:p :p :p :p

So happy to have found this thread since this was on our list to try when we go this November. Glad to see so many good reports!! We are really looking forward to it now!:)
