Hi everyone! A group of five of us will be staying at the Yacht club August 15-22 for the first time! We are also trying the DDP this trip, also for the first time. We are looking forward to eating at some restaurants we usually wouldn't try because of cost. We would like to get a good value for our credits and are not really interested in the standard character buffet.

Here are the restaurants we've selected so far:

Tutto Italia
Chefs De France
Boma
Cape May Cafe
Ohana
Teppan Edo
Biergarten

Would love some opinions on our choices.

We are using one of our table service credits to eat at Cape May Cafe for dinner as we thought this was a good value for a TS credit and also is near the hotel. However, 2 people in our party to do not eat seafood. I saw complaints about the seafood smell being overly strong during dinner. Are there plenty of offerings for non-fish eaters? Is this a place we should avoid?

Is Teppan Edo a must-do or do you recommend a different restaurant? We have many hibachi restaurants here, but have heard the food is great and it's a great value per TS credit. Would you keep/skip it?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Love Cape May- AYCE crab legs:love: I think there were a lot of non-seafood items as well. You'll smell seafood as the crabs are steaming right behind the buffet line. ; Boma is wonderful! Nice variety and enjoyed watching the animals on the savanna after our meal!; Biergarten is fun!! Nice buffet and entertainment!! Teppan Edo was very fun as well! Nice show with the food!!

Very good choices!:thumbsup2

You say you are not interested in the standard character buffets, but I think Boma is basically character buffet food without the characters, so I would nix that one. It is also kind of out of the way. A lot of people love it though, so YMMV.

I absolutely agree!!

Cape May Cafe is probably about half non-seafood choices, and while I have heard of a nasty seafood smell, I have never experienced it. In fact, we booked it twice for our upcoming trip.

Boma, or any dining at AKL is subject to universal acclaim. It could be a possible end to an AK day??

I used to really enjoy the Cape May Cafe. So much so we had 2 ADR’s for our last trip in April. I never noticed the seafood smell until this last trip. So much so that I hardly ate. I just wanted to get out & felt better after walking outside. My daughter had a difficult time finding food she liked this time around. She’s been there before but I found it was more seafood with very few choices otherwise. However, my husband still enjoyed it but basically he gets soup, salad and steamed clams. We cancelled our 2nd ADR. We don’t do the dining plan. We’ve always had a good meal at Via Napoli and Beaches & Cream.

I have heard people complaining about the smell recently, which is making me re-think it.

I, personally, would not take non-seafood eaters to Cape May. Yes, IMHO, it definitely smells of seafood. If you want something close by, see if Ale & Compass appeals. We had breakfast there on our last trip and it was outstanding!

If you have good teppan where you live, I would skip Teppan Edo. I find the "show" to be quite lackluster and the food just okay. If you need another EP restaurant, we really enjoy Spice Road Table.

We walked through Cape May Cafe on our recent stay at YC ( 07/06-07/10/18) and noted no "strong seafood smell". We also saw food stations dedicated to meat eaters.

I've heard good of Tutto Italia but haven't eaten there yet; same for Chefs de France, and Boma.
'Ohana...we've stayed at the Poly several times and always enjoyed the room service version of it's food. Ate at the restaurant finally last trip and enjoyed it as well.

I think Teppan Edo is probably more fun for families with small children and prefer Tokyo Dining for an adult group. Both are 1 credit TS eateries so it's your choice.

I've eaten at beer gardens in Germanic countries and do not have a high opinion of the one at Epcot. For this type of food I prefer the QS version, Sommerfest for a toe tipping intro to this style of food. Perhaps with a large group I'd have more fun there.

Boma is awesome, one of the best buffets on property- much better than any of the character buffets so I would keep that. Plus you'll get to see AKL if you haven't been there yet!
I don't eat any seafood but enjoy CMC- we've been there 3x. I always find enough to eat as does older DS who only eats mussels as far as seafood goes. None of us have ever noticed an overly strong seafood smell.

Love, love Cape May. Just went a few months ago and no, the seafood smell is not that strong. We don't even notice it, although with the steaming seafood am sure there would be some smell obviously.

Have never heard anyone personally complain about the smell - the only complaints I've noticed are those here on the Dis!

We look forward to dining there from one trip to the next - sometimes twice a trip! The crabs are hot and delicious, and the chowder is so yummy!
I'm drooling now!!

The seafood and non seafood dishes are about 50/50. They have great salads also.

We have no children in our party so I will check out Tokyo Dining, thank you!

I love seafood, and love Cape May Cafe. And yes, the smell can be bothersome to folks who aren't enthused with Seafood.

Ale and Compass down the hall in the Yacht Club can be a good offering where if one of you wants seafood, they can get it there while everyone else can choose other offerings. We very much liked Ale and Compass ourselves.

Honestly I was underwhelmed by Teppan Edo. We only went there because we it's good for picky eaters (my MIL) and I thought it would be entertaining for our daughter; we got the MOST BORING cook in the history of cooks...the food was decent though.

I will have to check it out- we wanted at least one meal near the hotel, will look into Ale & Compass, thanks!

That's what I was afraid of - especially with so many Hibachi places around here.

Here are the restaurants we've selected so far:

Tutto Italia- Not a must do for me but is one that I do enjoy and like it better than Via Napoli.
Chefs De France I really do enjoy this restaurant. Tried it for the first time a couple of years ago and will certainly go back.
Boma This is one of only two buffet restaurants that I will go to for dinner. The food at Boma, in my opinion, is average with a few items excellent. That for me is a huge compliment for a buffet restaurant.
Cape May Cafe Not a fan of this place at all. Rather average at best in some things and typical mass over quality buffet food overall. Crab legs are average and not much else is average for a seafood lover.
Ohana Use to be a go-to for me, not as much anymore. Food is ok, but the service is spotty and the wait times even with ADR's are unbelievable long at times.
Teppan Edo It's good but is just your typical Japanese steakhouse found in any mid size city in the U.S. I much more prefer Tokyo Dining.
Biergarten This is the second buffet I will go to for dinner. Awesome theming, fun atmosphere and the food quality is average and above as well.

Would love some opinions on our choices.

My own thoughts are above in blue. I would say that if your heart is set on all of these places then don't let any of us chase you away from them. What I may not like may be what someone else loves. And what someone else loves I can't stand. Opinions are like back ends and belly buttons, we all have one and they all are different. :goodvibes

Ate at Cape May Buffet in May. The seafood wasn't brilliant. The crab was pretty tasteless and poorly presented (open a 2 gallon plastic bag of crab legs and pour into a hot dish while people queue up to fill their plates...) The wait staff were competent but impersonal. There are better buffets, good food quality and variety, with more going on to engage guests. We liked the 1903 Park Fare Cinderella Buffet at Grand Floridian, Ohana and Boma much more than Cape May.
