DH and I are planning on eating at the Clam Bake in Sept. We currently have 7:15pm dinner ADR's, however, I was considering moving them to 8:45 or 9:00pm since the hours are 5:30-9:30pm. If we go at 9pm will they start closing things up if we aren't done by 9:30 and will the food still be fresh if we go at that time? DH and I do prefer to eat later vs. early. Thanks for any input...

we ate there on the 6/26 - made it our first ressie because we were so pleased with it on our last trip two years ago. We couldn't have been more disappointed - it is far from a seafood fest. The clams were miniature and the "tilapia" was so greasy and heavily battered that we couldn't even taste the fish. There is plenty of food there to fill you up, but don't expect quality, the carving station had very fatty beef and very small portions. Sorry I didn't answer your question, I really don't know about timing for freshness, but my recommendation is to stay away from buffets unless you are strictly trying to pig out. Go across the lake to Spoodles for a much better meal.

We have been to Cape May multiple times - DH's favorite. Unfortunatly I cannot answer the question regarding a 9:00pm ADR. BUT, we find the food selections to be pretty good. IMHO it is a matter of personal preference. Personally I like the small clams, can't handle anything larger than what Cape May has, sure you can eat a bunch, but that is not the only thing there to eat. DH loves the mussels and he is a battered/greasy fried fish nut. That's the only way he'll eat fish. The ribs are not bad, the chicken dishes are decent and I have had some absolutely delicious beef tips there in the past. The carving station does serve smaller slices of their beef, but if you want more than what they are giving you, just tell them and the carving chef will be happy to oblige. I guess being from central PA, we don't go looking for an "authentic New England Clam Bake" even though that is what it is termed. Actually have never been to an authentic New England Clam Bake. But we do like the food at Cape May Cafe just fine.

Definately not "authentic" NE Clam bake, but we still enjoy it. Plenty to choose from and it's a hit with the kids too :)

Have you found openings for your night? I booked a couple weeks ago when the online site crashed alot and never got a confirmation number. I have tried daily and cannot find an open slot. Good luck to both of us in finding one.

We have stayed at BC the last 3 visits....and eaten at Cape May "Clambake" every time....

We always eat an early dinner - prefer that...BUT having said that....by the looks of the folks 'waiting' in line to get in (between folks with ADR's) I would say the food would be pretty fresh throughout the meal...since it's so crowded....

I always feel bad for the folks who see the restaurant completely empty all day long...then decide to 'drop in' for dinner...and find it completely packed.

We've always had ADR's and never waited more than 5 minutes for a table...

It's not really a "clambake" I would THINK....they do have clams & mussels & boiled shrimp, fish, etc. but it truly is a Buffet first...

I like the salad buffet....I like the carving station....they had some really tender ribs....mashed potatoes....it's a good bargain for my family of 5...since we can all find enough to fill us up....The dessert buffet is to die for...

Have a Magical visit!

Mary
