Cape May Cafe breakfast

Hi! Staying at YC for the first time this September and thinking of spinning Cape May breakfast. Kids will be 9 and 3 and we won't have the dining plan.

We don't have many St down reservations made, with the only other character meals being Ohana breakfast (which we may cancel as we switched from the poly) and crystal palace breakfast (which is definitely staying!!!)

I know it will likely be similar buffet offerings, just curious for any thoughts on character interaction, atmosphere etc and if you felt it was worth paying OPP.

It was a few years ago, but we enjoyed breakfast at Cape May Cafe. The food wasn't anything different, but we saw all the characters. The atmosphere was much better than at Chef Mickey's which is always super busy and can be a total zoo with kids following the characters all over the place. And if you're staying at YC, I see no reason not to do it.

I agree, its good food, and the character interaction is always awesome there. I'd say keep Ohana, cause it's also good food, and a different character interaction from most of the rest. I say if you're okay with doing all three, definitely keep all of them. I know Chef Mickey's can get a bit crazy, but it's one of our favorite character breakfasts. Really fun atmosphere, and kids always seem to really love it. Happy Dining .

Thank you!! We have done chef mickeys the last three times and are going to skip it this time (different if we were on the dining plan of course!).

Budget wise, keeping all three is fine, I'm just thinking in terms of time to make it to poly for the breakfast. I made the reservation when I bought we were staying there. But I don't WANT to get rid of it ha. We did it last time and it was one of my favourites!

Tusker House - Donald's Safari Breakfast is also one of our favorites! That one may be bit easier to get to considering your location .

I am not a big fan of dinner buffets, but I will do a breakfast buffet. Cape May is one of my favorites and usually make it part of our plans as it will be next month. I love the atmosphere and the character interaction is excellent. I have never been to Tusker House, but the reviews are mostly positive. My favorite breakfast buffets are Crystal Palace and Cape May. My least favorite is Chef Mickey. I did like the character interaction and the atmosphere was ok; however, the food IMHO is just simply awful. I think it's a good decision to pass on CM. My chocolate lab has an insatiable appetite and has a cast iron stomach and I think he would take a pass on Chef Mickey.

The only time I ever recommend Cape May is to BC or YC guests. It is pretty blah, with typical unexciting hotel restaurant surroundings and fewer food selections than most other character buffets but it is nice to be able to eat with the characters just a stroll away from your room. (That is why we always end up there!). Character interaction is always good. Sounds like this would be your only chance to see a Minnie or Goofy, if you keep that set of meals. So, a lukewarm "probably worth it" from me.

I don't swoon at the thought of a buffet at any time and it's been a few years since I've eaten there; however, I put Cape May breakfast in the top of Disney buffets. I thought the variety and quality of offerings were good and tastier than most; and what the previous poster described as "unexciting hotel restaurant surroundings", I would describe as "intimate" ...which was part of the appeal. The characters in their beach attire are cute and can't be seen elsewhere. I liked that the restaurant was a bit smaller and I didn't' have to travel far to the buffet, and that it was easier to keep an eye on the characters coming by when leaving the table to get food. At my 13yo dd request, we are going there again in September for breakfast as we will be conveniently staying at the Boardwalk.

Cape May Cafe is one of our family's very favorite breakfast locations! I think the food there is awesome and have noticed different types of things available that I don't find at some of the other buffets. One example is their Chorizo and Four Cheese Scrambled Eggs - my DH is a HUGE chorizo fan and really loved those eggs! They also typically have frittatas that are TO DIE FOR in my opinion! They've had different ones a few of the times we've been and I love all of them! Don't even get me started on their Creamy Cheddar Grits!!!

While I do not recommend breakfast over being at Park opening (a/k/a Rope Drop), Cape May is one of the better breakfasts.

Since you staying at YC, it's a no-brainer if you've decided to do a Character breakfast.

1900 Park Fare is comparable if staying at Grand Floridian.

Boma has excellent breakfast, but no Characters.

Tusker House has similar flavors to Boma, but is not as extravagant. Then again, Tusker House has Characters for breakfast and lunch.

Nothing wrong with Cape May, but I would suggest Tusker House for lunch on AK day over missing a rope drop at any Park…..and Cape May is a favorite of mine because Goofy hosts.

You get little by going to 'Ohana breakfast if staying at YC.

Yes - Go for the Chorizo and Cheese Scrambled Eggs (and asparagus with Hollandaise). Stay for seeing Minnie, Donald and Goofy in their beach attire in the only spot possible.

I totally agree with you on this. Cape May is one of our faves. I love at its smaller than most. I also love the fact that its the quietest character meal around. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is gorgeous, and the characters are adorable. I would cancel Ohana and keep Cape May.

Also, FWIW, I know 1900 breakfast wont be too far from you....not sure if you were considering 1900 but I would NOT cancel Cape May for 1900. I didnt think the food and atmosphere at 1900 was that great. Tusker is a great buffet, but for the convenience i'd just go with Cape May.

I will definitely keep the Cape May reservation! I'm excited for it now! My son LOVES goofy as well and I think he will get a huge kick out of goofy in his surf outfit.
Also, we have it booked on one of our resort days so we won't be missing rope drop or anything (truth be told we likely won't make rope drop anyways!)
I'm still debating dropping Ohana breakfast. Especially OPP. It was one of my favourites sure, but just thinking we may not need that one!

Just pray Goofy can keep his trunks up. One of the most hilarious interactions we've ever had was when Goofy came out to greet tables not fully fastened up. You should have seen his handler trying to get him pulled back together and the comments he was making

They did not have chorizo and cheese scrambled eggs on the buffet when we were there. Beware of planning on one particular dish at any character buffet, you could be disappointed.

I totally agree we just went to Cape May a few days ago and it was great. Good food everyone was friendly,

I posted a few weeks ago trying to decide between Cape May or giving Ohana a second chance. So glad we went with Cape May. We walked by Ohana when we ate at Kona. I just knew we made the right choice.
