canvas bags

Thinking of a new idea (for me) for character autographs. Seems like I remember reading about having characters sign plain canvas tote bags & would kinda like to try that. Since I am not 'crafty' or creative in any way could someone give me tips or advice as to what kind of paint/pen for the characters to use for signing & how to preserve the finished product, lol?? TIA

you can buy fabric marker pens, they write like a normal pen but the ink is fabric paint, if i remember right you seal them with a hot iron
