Cantina de San Angel Refurb?

Thanks for the link. :surfweb:

That is news at least for me. I had not read that it would be a TS location as well as QS. Wonder how the TS menu outside will differ from San Angel?

Many of those speculating are hoping for some Tex-Mex style selections at the TS.

I would hope so, given that more authentic Mexican food can be found at San Angel Inn, and the Cantina that this new eatery is replacing did offer great Tex-Mex style fare.

But the QS could still offer Tex-Mex. With a great view, I would hope the new TS spot could be more authentic Mexican.

If the demand is there for Tex-Mex TS, maybe San Angel could move toward that. Really it has to some extent over the years anyway, don't you think?

My point was that the cuisine for the restaurant inside the pavilion and the cuisine for the restaurant outside the pavilion should be completely different, and indeed it does make sense for the cuisine for the restaurant outside the pavilion specifically to be a cuisine that better appeals to the American preferences of most of the people walking by the entry, since the people going inside the pavilion are going to be more likely to be interested in Mexico, more so than those who walk past without walking in.

You want more authentic Mexican, then go inside the pavilion.

I hadn't heard there would be both a TS and a CS restaurant in the new location, either. I'm glad, as it has been very hard to get an AR for SAI lately.

I can see your point, bicker, but I agree with BCV23 in that I hope they have more authentic dishes in the restaurant with the view of the water and Illuminations. To combine a fantastic view with higher-end fare would be ideal. The atmosphere in the Mexico pavilion is more like a fiesta, so Tex-Mex offerings there wouldn't be too out of place, IMO.

BTW, I've often wondered if the mole that is served at SAI is made from scratch? Does anyone who has experience with this eaten it there? While mole does take a long time and is a very complex sauce when done well, you can buy it in a jar at our local Wal-Mart, and the dish I had a few years ago at SAI tasted as though it might have come from a jar!

I think I heard September somewhere for a reopening, not sure if that's official or not, and I may have that confused with the Italian restaurant.

The atmosphere in the Mexico pavilion is more like a fiesta...
Actually, the atmosphere inside the pavilion is like a traditional zócalo on market day. It is a very authentically-Mexican theme, and generally not something you generally see on this side of the border. By comparison, a laser and fireworks show is something that you do often seen on this side of the border.

The Mexico pavilion looks an awful lot like the Riverwalk in San Antonio to me. Not sure what that is modeled after or supposed to represent, but that's what I meant by fiesta. Since I haven't been to Mexico, I'll have to take your word for what it is supposed to represent.:)

Completely agree with you.

To think that the restaurant needs to appeal to someone casually strolling the WS is just plain silly in my opinion. Surely it will become very hard to obtain a dining reservation at the new TS in the evening. I hope the cuisine matches the view. :wizard:

That's silly, in my opinion. Appealing to people walking by makes the difference between an empty restaurant between 2PM-4PM each day, and a full restaurant between 2PM-4PM.

They could serve hamburgers in the evening and the place would still be full. All that matter, differentially, is what they can do to fill the restaurant during the off-hours.

I'm excited to try both the CS and TS locations on the water. I wonder when we can make reservations, and will it be on the dining plan?

If they have a TS restaurant with a view of Illuminations they could serve asphalt in creosote sauce and they'll fill it up every night, at least between 6:30 or 7 and 9 PM.

There is no current indicators anywhere as to whether or not this restaurant will accept the dining plan, but as its operator (which is not Disney) usually does agree to accept the dining plan, then it probably will.

There's a lot of complaints on the boards, and probably Disney gets more than we see here, about the more "authentic" food in San Angel Inn being not exactly what many guests expected. I don't think the new TS will replicate the menu inside but they aren't going to offer the worms and ant eggs either.

In which case curiosity may well provoke me to eat inside, but I would probably pass on the meal .... :lmao:

And for that, I shall be deeply grateful!

And it'd be "yummy" :rotfl:
