I have scanned through a couple of those threads and find very little true debating going on.

That's why I've chosen to pretty much stay out of it... I enjoy debating, but most of that is NOT debating.

I guess its good its there so people can get it out of their system and not clog the other boards

Actually, as a conservative, the DB often puts MY blood through the roof. It's a mutual thing - see, we have something in common.

I love the DB. It's where I started on the DIS, and it's the first board I visit when I come to the DIS. I know it's not for everyone - heck, there are days that I can't find anything to post about! But I'm glad it's there.

I'm the pixie dust kind of person too!! I'm glad its there to cause it keeps some of the more mouthy people off the CB.

I enjoy discussions and like to read different viewpoints even though most of the political or religious threads don't interest me. There are definitely some rude people over there but then I've seen rude people on every board from time to time.

But having so many choices is one of the best things about the DIS in my opinion, there's so much to suit lots of interests.

I've seen rudeness on every board too. The worst flames I ever got were on the transportation board, of all places! I've seen lots of namecalling on the CB too about pretty silly topics that you wouldn't think would be controversial. I don't really find the debate board all that different - sometimes I think I'm on it when I'm here on the CB. At least on the debate board you can usually tell by the thread title what you're getting into!

I visit the debate board occasionally to see what's going on there. IMO there are quite a few boards on the DIS that don't have much to do with Disney. My WDW trip was two years ago and I'm still here with no plans to take a trip again. I come here because the people are pleasant and I think people with "Disney attitudes" are fun to be with.

I've seen many times when the mods step in and try to redirect threads and close them if needed. I think they do a pretty good job.

I definately agree that the debate board plays a useful part of the DIS. Really isn't for me. I've posted there a few times, but not very often.

I do wish there would be more true debates as others have said. Instead they tend to go into bashing sessions. I'd rather see them do it there than on the other boards.

IMHO there are alot of people that thrive when they have a chance to argue about ,well just about anything. So I agree that the debate board is needed.

I think it's needed too. If there wasn't a debate board, there would be a ton more debates on this board. I rarely visit the debate board, but that's because I don't have the need to argue.

I visited the Debate Board when I first joined here, and that was enough for me, have never been there again. I used to be into debates, but now with 3 kids and less time, I just don't care what other people think or do! To each his/her own, live and let live, mind my own beeswax!...
