Can't use sunscreen for infant---any ideas?

Have him wear a hat, cover stroller and definitely sunscreen. There are safe sunscreen for babies out there. Good luck and have fun!

Congratulations on your new baby!! I think you all will have a wonderful trip. I agree with other posters in that I thought the current recommendation for sunblock is 6+ months, so check with your pediatrician on that, but if you still can't use it, I'd definitely try to find some UV-blocking clothes. I somewhere read that there was some UV-blocking thing you could wash in with your clothes to make them more UV-blocking (if that makes sense... google sunblock clothes or something and it should come up), and I would definitely do a sunblocking hat (Target and BRU sell them in the summer, and I'm sure you can find them online or in warmer areas). Also, the sunblocking extra add-on thing for your stroller (BRU sells it with stroller accessories - maybe on clearance now possibly?). If you're using a carrier, some (like the Ergo) have a "sleeping hood" that would be good head protection for when your son is sleeping (we wore our 14 month old in it while at DL earlier this year and it was a HUGE blessing while we were there... and we could still go on rides with her in it!). In reality though, I think the easiest thing would be sunblock... the natural kinds are way less "chemicals" and really, I'd personally rather that my kid got a few chemicals for a few days (that we immediately wash off as soon as we get home or before long naps) than a sunburn. Hopefully his skin isn't too sensitive and can handle something. I hope you all have a wonderful trip!

Our ped recommended the Blue Lizard Sensitive Skin formula for DD when she was an infant. Works great! We still use Blue Lizard--it is quality stuff! :wizard:

Burts Bees makes a checal free sunblock. We've used it and it works. It os not waterproof though.

I have used penaten as a sunscreen on my kids since birth. Works amazing and completely safe on newborns (it's actually intended for diaper rash).

Totally totally white kids and do not get any kind of tan because of penaten.

And it's completely waterproof.

this tip actually came from first aid staff at mk few years ago.

Works great and totally safe for even newborns, but I still use it on my almost 10 yo dd.

When we took DS4mos in April, I was concerned about the sun. My pediatrician said not to use sunscreen because he was under 6 months (something about prohibiting the body's absorption of Vitamin D). We had no problem keeping him out of the sun. When we were walking around during the day, he was either in the stoller shaded or we were in an attraction. When he was in the carrier, we would have his hat on, but on the warmer days his arms were out, so we just tried not to be out in the sun too long. I looked for shady spots everywhere. When we were in the pool, he had his hat and his Mickey long-sleeve rash guard shirt from Disneyshopping - it was great! You'll have so much fun with him at Disney!

Oh - I forgot to mention the baby care centers. They are really wonderful. They provide a cool, quiet place to take care of baby - changing, nursing, feeding, resting. Take advantage of them in each of the parks!

DS and I have extremely sensitive skin. Both of us have allergies to certain sunscreen ingredients. So I understand completely how wearing sunscreen isn't always an option for people. When DS was little, I dressed him in a Sunsie from Sun Chasers (http://www.sun-chasers.com/infants.htm) It worked great on our Disney Cruise when he was 10months. I also made my own Solarveil sling, but you can buy those. My youngest DD would nap in hers when we went to WDW when she was 8 months old. She was covered, and I was mobile and not tied to a stroller. Just don't forget to add a good hat! I love the Flap Happy style, but always sewed my own so my kids would have matching ones.

Congrats on the baby and have a great time when you go!

Just returned from two weeks with our four month old. She's too young for sunscreen so we really tried to keep her shaded. Not to mention it was crazy hot. She always had her hat on and sunglasses. She spent a lot of time in her sling so I was a little concerned with anything exposed so I tried to spend a lot of time in the shade. We also went back to the room from about noon to three to stay out of the sun during peak times. She was fine, not a shade of colour on her.

If I remember correctly when I asked the kids peditrician what was the reason for no sunscreen when they are really little. He said mostly it's due to the fact that alot of people think that if a little baby has sunscreen on he can stay out in the sun with no problems. He said their skin is very delicate to sun exposure. I guess that way you don't get a sense of false security. Does that make sense? I think I need a cup of coffee. Congrats on the baby.
