Can't use rental made - cancel it or keep it?

All,

I booked a rental through David's Vacation Club for myself and my two kids; and then their mom expressed she didn't think it would work because the time frame I could find (given so many bookings) was close to another event she had been planning. So, now I'm stuck with this and it's non-refundable/transferrable. And I guess my question is - does it make sense to cancel it (and then whomever gets to charge twice for it) or do I just keep it. I can go for a little bit (the first day and next day) before I have to get back to the kids - so, maybe I do that and let the room sit for a few days. Anyway - any reason I should officially cancel vs. just letting it go?

Normally, the broker will not allow the owner to cancel it, even if you say you are not going.

The contract explicitly states owners can not and if they do, they can be held liable and you could be due a voucher.

So, it will be yours until check in. I know when I used the broker, if I had been told or asked to cancel, I would not do it because of the contract, even if it meant the room stayed empty.

Honestly, I’d try to get a few days in!

I learned this the hard way. I was asked by the broker to cancel, did so. And then was told I breached contract. That was fun back and forth while they went after me for the initial deposit.

Since it’s non refundable, keep it,

see if you have friends that can come?

This, @bsmcneil - don't cancel unless they will give you money back.

You could bring friends and add them at the desk when you get there.

A couple of days may be fun, depending on when it is. Enjoy.

I agree, see if you have some friends that would go with you, and if they could stay for the entire reservation the room would not go to waste. I would contact the broker, though, to see if they and the DVC Owner are willing to add their names to the reservation, and drop the kid's names off.

I say....enjoy a nice solo trip to Disney

What resort and room type?
I would enjoy it but wouldn't feel comfortable without the kids (and I would need to parent them 3 days in the middle of the trip). It's AKL, savanna room (studio). I may find someone to go with for the first couple of days and they can stay when I have to come back.
