We have always told our kids about out trips well beforehand. For this upcoming trip we decided to keep it a secret from DD7, DS9, and DD11. It's so tough though.

I kept a secret once, but it was only because we planned the trip only a week in advance. I never would have made it if it would have been farther out. Good luck keeping it quiet!

When is your trip? And good luck with that one.Once I did a surprise 30th birthday surprise trip for my wife.Even had her boss in on it so she had the days off.Boy that was fun the kids were 5 and 3 at the time. Many moons ago.

Ugh! It is so hard! My girls know we are headed back to WDW in October...but they do not know that their cousins (my sister, BiL, and their two daughters) are coming too! My sister is keeping the trip a surprise for her girls so if my girls knew, they'd blab. It's hard to plan and keep the secret. For example, my kids have been to MNSSHP and I believe they'd like to go again. My sister is on a tight budget which does not include the party. So, would my kids be more disappointed if they couldn't go to the party or would they be more upset if they *have* to go to the party and leave their cousins behind?? My nieces will be 6 and almost 3 and my sister says that even if they could afford it, the kids wouldn't stay awake much past 9pm anyways.

Only 7 more months until we can blab:)

If it helps, keeping the secret is soooo worth it!
I kept our last DLR trip a secret for five months. I had Mickey call the house the day before we left... the kids were looking at me like
Then the confused looks turned to:hyper::yay:

The secret was awesome since it eliminated the "when are we going? How much longer?" questions! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the inspiration! We are going May 24-31! It's just two months of keeping a secret, but after maybe just two weeks, I'm catching myself singing Disney tunes all day- even at work. Do you want to build a snowman???

Three months...not two. Boy oh boy.

We are going in November and we are also keeping it a secret also from our 4 and 7 year old. It is KILLING me. My husband is laughing hysterically because he knows how hard it is for me not to say anything. The day we leave I am going to leave a stuffed Mickey and Minnie on the kitchen table w/ a helium balloon and gift card with a banner saying "we are going to Disney". They will be so excited.

What a great idea! Good luck! I'm sure like a previous poster stated- that's it's soo worth it! We are still considering ways to break the news. We are driving down from CT so I will be doing some things that cause suspicion, bringing the dog to my moms...I think we were going to put out the magic bands...my DW was thinking some sort of puzzle/ scavenger hunt...

We surprised our three kids one year. Kept it a secret for about nine months! We told them in the morning while they were eating breakfast. Everyone was crabby and then surprise went over like a lead balloon. We recorded the whole thing. It's funny now how very anti climactic the whole thing was. Morale of the story - tell them when they are fully awake and happy. We are clearly not a morning family. :)

We surprised my daughter and oldest son two years ago. We are now down to the final 36 hours of the secret for this trip and all 4 kids are going (2 Year old twins). lots of pressure since we need to leave the house by 4 am and i have no room to hide suitcases but we are packing in 36gallon totes right now and hope it is an easy transfer.

two years ago, my daughter cried because she missed a field trip. the video is hysterical to see her get upset about going to Disney. this year, we kept it a secret again because we didn't want to be nagged. Been a secret since November.

I'm soooo happy to hear it's not just our kids. Our middle daughter started crying when we told her because she wanted to go to her friend Alyssa's house that weekend. We still tease her about that.

Keeping a WDW trip a secret was never a good option for my family. My kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE planning the trip. I'd be afraid I'd be taking away 1/2 the fun.

I know it's a wonderful option for others though. Good luck!
