Can't find thread, what was the final count ?

I was curious about Shan's thread, how many people call to confirm their ressie prior to arrival. I wanted to know how many people did this..... but I can't find the thread. Was it moved to another board ? Seems strange I can't find it.

Anyway, if anybody knows the final count, I'd be interested in knowing. I'd also like to know if it helped you get all the items you requested when you made your ressie.

I can't find that thread either.

I only remember 1 person who said they called and I believe that they called to confirm when they were renting points. It seems like there were more than a dozen people stating no need to call, or don't call because your ressies could get changed accidentally.

Don't think anyone said it helped them to get all of their requests from the initial ressies.

My memory's not so great, though, wish I could find the thread. I can't think of any more appropriate board that it might have gone to.

I can't find it either. I think wtpclc is correct about the consensus. Bring your confirmation letter and there's usually no problem. The only time I have called is when we have had a very late arrival and it's more to alert them that we're still coming not to actually confirm requests, etc.

I was looking for it as well. Either I am having memory problems or this board is losing threads.

I recollect that it was strongly towards not calling, with many saying that they have the paperwork with them. I don't remember whether it helped with requests or not.

I remember another thread on requests where I believe they said that DVC and WDW handle requests differently. For WDW it helps to check in with the room assigner via a kindly worded fax a few days before arrival. DVC however handled it all through MS and then assignments (and requests) were handled at check-in. I could be wrong on this, so anyone with a better recollection please chime in.

DARN! Another one of my threads and/or posts disappears! Odd, very odd indeed...

I'm glad I'm about to leave for my trip, I'm starting to get a little irritated here...

I must not be posting correctly, am I hitting a wrong button?

Didn't they tell you??? Never hit the red button! Things disappear!!! Really!

The general feeling was that your confirmation letter was enough. Calling MS could create a problem that does not exist, ie. a keying error that could unreserve (is that a word?) your ressie.

On that deleted thread I had related the story posted on the boards of someone showing up at the BCV with reservation in hand but no room...They were offered OKW Grand Villa to make it up...but as I said if your kids had their hearts set on SAB alot that would not be satisfactory...wondering if anyone else had a similar problem?

Though a pin because they would have to drie, I am sure they could be granted SAB privleges in this situation. I am just not sure the change in location would compensate for my bus rides vs. walks.

PKS44, actually I recall another poster who had a similar problem at VWL. Anyone remember that? They showed up and there was no room in the inn so to speak. Unfortunately, the WL desk was not quite as giving as BCV. They argued with them instead!

What is the policy? I don
t understand how they can give away our room when we have prepaid for use of the place and reserved it sometimes as long as 11 months ahead of time? What is Disney's responsibility here?

Clearly, it is Disney's responsibility to fulfill the obligation to the best of their ability. This isn't an airline, where they are allowed to overbook.

I am shocked that anyone had to argue with the front desk if they show up with confirmation in hand! Now, I can see where a mistake can be made, but any decent manager would bend over backwards to make the customer whole in a situation like that.

Of course, we don't know all the details of the "confrontation". And it's not like we hear about it on this board very often....maybe once or twice in the three years I've been posting here.

That was the only time I had heard a story like that. It has been in the past year. Anyone remember this?

Boy, this discussion made me start searching for my confirmation for October! I would hate to get there with my 12 folks and have a mix up! I found October's but not the one for December.

This sounds very uncharacteristic of the front desk at WL. BUT there is one young man who works the desk there who we absolutely avoid if at all possible. I have visions in my head of him being the one who did the argueing as posted above.

He just seems like the type fellow who would rather argue than try to solve the problem. I will be surprised if he is still there when we return in Oct.

We have followed up right before our trip a couple of times but not before this last trip home. We always carry our paperwork with conf. # This way we have something to back us up and verify our ressies.

I can't imagine arguing about a written confirmation notice. Now if there were no villas available then obviously an alternative arrangement is required. Disney is known and CMs are trained in service recovery. If a CM was unsure about what to do, they would go to their area leader for assistance. This is very odd.

Are we missing some important piece of this puzzle?

OK, I tried to do a search, but I wasn't getting anywhere and I'm trying to finish up on my packing. (Look at my countdown! :Pinkbounc )
It was awhile back, less than a year ago though. I remember the thread cause it freaked me out a tad. The CM told them they should have come earlier in the day then they would have gotten a room!
I had a bad CM at VWL last December, I even wrote about it in a trip report. It was a woman. Had some attitude with me. Didn't cause me any severe damage. ;) I still love VWL as much as ever. :teeth: So far the best check in experience I've had since joining was at BWV last month. It really starts the trip with a good vibe, agree? ::yes::

My My Gone to the gutters have we????

I remember that thread about showing up earlier too. I remember she was told that - but I think it also had something to do with a smoking vs non-smoking room. Of course, these threads do seem to run together sometimes. Or maybe they just disappear, I'm not sure.

I remember the family that got placed in an OKW grand villa. I think they were actually checking in at a non-DVC resort. CS maybe? Something about requesting a room, or paying for a preferred room and not getting it?

Anyway - even if you do call to confirm the ressie is there - all you have is that piece of paper when you arrive. They have to honor their own documents I suppose - but think about all the confirmations that get sent out and then are cancelled later. What if someone dishonest cancels one, saves the paper and then shows up and demands a room - playing ignorant to the cancel?

So who and what do you trust? Makes you want to tear your hair out!

That was a different story about a family at the CBR not getting their requests and throwing a fit to GET an OKW GV...we are not discussing that situation...this was a BCV reservation and the family was told on check in--sorry we don't have a room for you here, but we will put you at OKW....I don't know about anyone else but it would take alot more than that to satisfy me if I had my reservation at BCV...I do think they were also going to refund the points but even that would not be enough if it were I.*
