Can't find the answer.............

Onboard at all times it is 21....at some of the ports it is 18, but onboard definately 21.

Thank you all for the answer. Our son (who will be 18 on the re-po cruise) was hoping to be able to try one of those famous speciality drinks Disney serves.

Does anyone know if you can get any of them as a virgin?

If memory serves me correctly (sometimes it doesn't) at the sail away parties the drinks that the waitstaff are carrying around start out as virgin and if you want the alcohol, they add it when you purchase the drink.

21 on the ship and there is no drinking age in St. Maarteen. Depending which sailing you will be on.

Here's a question regarding the drinking age: I know that it's 21 on the ship. At home in the US stores and bars are required to "card" anyone that looks to be under 25yo. Does DCL "card" younger looking adults (or older teenagers) to be sure that they are "of drinking age"?

I could be wrong about this, but doesn't a 21 and under's KTTW card have an indication of underage on it?

They do check IDs on the ship and yes the room keys/credit cards are different if you are over 21. :sunny:

I know the KTTW card for anyone over 21 says ADULT on the card. I'm not sure what it would have on it for the 18 - 20 year old group, since they are allowed into the Adult areas of the ship.

I was just reading in the PassPorter (just got it yesterday) that if an underage person is caught with alcohol, on the ship, they will be fined $250 and could get up to 3 days of stateroom arrest.

I just learned this last week on the cruise....
If you are under legal drinking age the bottom corner says "NA" for "No alcohol" but if you are legal it will have the year of your birth. :)

should be by us laws 21 years of age
U.S. law -- specifically the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 -- requires "all states to raise their minimum drinking age to 21 within two years or lose a portion of their federal-aid highway funds."

However, all the major cruise ships operating out of U.S. ports (except for one NCL ship in Hawaii) fly foreign flags. That includes the two Disney ships. The U.S. drinking age law does not apply. On Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships, it's my understanding that the drinking age for liquor is 21, but for beer and wine it's 18 (with parent's permission).

The drinking age of the Disney ships is 21, but that's Disney's choice.

By the way, unless something has changed in past year, restaurants in Wisconsin are allowed to serve alcohol to children, as long as they're accompanied by their parents.

I looked it up once, and I believe that the legal drinking age in all the ports is 18, with the exceptions of Key West and Castaway Cay, where it is 21.

Horace is correct about RCI's policy. Carnival and HAL's drinking age is 21 on board, but I think you can hit the casino if you're 18.

Are you serious?

Yes, I'm serious. I was in a German restaurant in Milwaukee with my two "tween" kids. I ordered a beer, and I jokingly suggested they would want beer too. The waitress said she serve them! (My kids ordered milk.)

Yes, it applies to children of any age. Last year, a Wisconsin legislator was trying to get the law changed. See http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2003/08/20/news/02bars.txt
