Hi. I tried to post a rental on the rent/trade board. We have ressies, but DH just lost his job, so needless to say we can't go. I posted the reservation for review on the rent board but the reply says I failed the 30 day rule.

I can't find why posting now for more than 30 days out is prohibited. Does anyone know? I think I will lose these points if I don't use them and I thought that the farther in advance I posted them, the better off I'd be in renting them.

This is an actual reservation I tried to rent, not points. I did read the rules, but I am obviously missing something....yeah, I know, a brain :) ...... help!!

This is me.....:confused3 Confused :goodvibes

Reservations can only be advertised for rent less than 30 days before check-in.

Points (not existing reservations) can be rented further ahead than 30 days.

This is to prevent "speculators" who book high demand times and then try to rent them. The 30 day rule only allows exisiting reservations that will go into holding if not used.

Some people in your situation will post a "Points for Rent" thread immediately and if they get a renter and there is availability for the dates the renter wants, they cancel the existing reservation and use the points to book the new reservation. If you haven't managed to rent the points by the time you are within 30 days of check in for the original reservation, post a "Reservation for Rent" thread for your existing reservation. You can even keep the "Points for Rent" thread active during that time to improve your chances of finding a renter.

I have seen where people list existing reservations on other sites to sell them this close to the actual dates of the reservation. So sorry that DH lost his job! Hope things improve!

Did you consider cancelling the existing reservation ? since you are more than 31 days before the check-in date those points used for the reservation will not go into Holding status (which would mean they would then carry various restrictions when making a new reservation).

You may stand a better chance of renting out those points since they are not tied to set dates/resort.

If the points you used to make the reservation are from your current use year allotment you can then also do a transfer transaction with another DVC member, but if they are banked points from your previous use year or borrowed points from your upcoming use year then you wouldn't be able to do a member transfer. But you would still be able to rent the points out and set up a reservation for dates that are to the preference of either a member or non-member.

This thread has been edited to remove reference to the time frame that the OP is looking to advertise renting for. Those details must be confined to the DVC Rent/Trade board such as time frame, villa size, resort, etc. Thanks everyone!
