Can't Describe the Sadness...

Looking at those pictures made me cry. :guilty:
My prayers are with the family-I can't imagine the devastation they must feel.

the photos can knock the wind out of you, give you that knot in your throat feeling...how very sad.....my thoughts are not only with that soldiers family, but with all military families........to you all, Thank You........also, thank you for sharing the tradition that they follow for a fallen marine...

The young man is from Dh's home town. I know the community came out to support the family.

My prayers go out to the family and friends.

What horrible heart break :sad2:... God bless this young Marine, his family and friends... The look on his parents' faces is devastating... I can not begin to imagine the total loss and despair they are feeling... :sad1:

This is a parents worst nightmare. As the mother of a former Marine Special Forces Scout-Sniper I can only imagine how proud your broken heart would be.
God Bless and Keep your DS and you

So many beautiful comments here. As hard as it is to view these photos, we can't let these brave souls out of our mind and hearts.

OMG, my thoughts and prayers are with that family and all of the families involved. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

My oldest DD married a Marine this past year, I am still learning about the life of the Marines and their traditions as well as what their families go through. These are all very special human beings. God bless them one and all.

They respect the tradition that has been drilled into them from Day 1 and it never leaves them. My son served six years, including one tour in Iraq. Even though he is no longer a member of this unit, he considers them part of his family - "once a Marine, always a Marine".

The morning after the visitation, I noticed that he had shaved off the beard he'd been growing for the past month. I mentioned it and he looked at me as if it were a "no brainer". He said he could NEVER have attended a funeral for a Marine without making sure he was clean shaven.

It made me remember a photo that appeared in a magazine while my son was in Iraq - during the early days of the war. The photo is of our son standing along the side of the road, weapon over his shoulder and gas mask on his hip, shaving while looking into the side mirror of a humvee.

As the mom of a Marine preparing for deployment, this really hit hard. When I first read it yesterday, I couldn't even respond. It got even worse when I looked up and saw a pair of boots on the other side of the room nearly identical to those pictured which DS had left the last time he was home on leave.

Prayers and blessings to the parents and to all of the brave young men and women who willingly defend our freedom.

Each and every loss is a tragedy. Each one I hear about makes me cry and mourn the loss of another life.

I cannot even imagine the pain his parents and loved ones are going through right now.

Oh my gosh, that's so sad. My heart goes out to that Marine's parents. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child :( Reading about the Marine's traditions gave me chills. I grew up with a dad in the Army so I know all about military tradition, and to this day I can't hear that kind of stuff without getting chills and a lump in my throat.

My son explained some of the tradition/respect to the fallen Marine....when his body left Iraq, it was accompanied by another Marine to Dover Air Force Base. At that time, a Marine from this home unit flew to Dover to accompany the body home. At the visitation, two Marines stood at Parade Rest at the head and the foot of the casket. As my son explained to me, "he was never left alone."

The tradition alone is enough to bring me to tears.

My heart is breaking. I cannot imagne the pain of a parent losing their child, a child losing their Mom or Dad, or a spouse losing their soul mate or the pain of a Marine losing a brother. My Nephew, a Marine serving in Iraq, lost two crew members this year and he was devastated by their deaths.

My prayers are with you and your dear friends as you mourn the loss of a fallen hero, and as always with the brave men and women who sacrifice so much to keep us free.

I don't know how a Mother survives this. Chris is due to leave Iraq in less than two weeks. This is his 3rd tour and I think the hardest one for his Mom. She very seldom verbalizes her fears, but they never leave her. We have lost two Marines in our little area recently and she always goes to the airport to pay tribute to them and to support their families. I will never know where he gets the strength.

I will add your son to my prayers. Please thank him for his service and thank you also.

I just said a prayer for all our troops and their families. Thanks for reminding us of the sacrifices our troops and their families are making for all of us.

God Bless the America

Those pics made me cry at my desk. God bless his soul, and God bless his family. I cannot imagine their pain. :grouphug: :grouphug:

The six months that our son served in Iraq was the longest six months of my life. Now - three years later, it's like a blur. I remember vividly the day he left and the day he came home. The months in between were held together by some little white pills from my doctor. ;)

To this day, he doesn't talk much about it - at least not the "bad" stuff. He talks about the Iraqi children and his Marine "brothers", but he keeps his war experiences to himself.
