I want to get a new lens. Right now I only have my kit 18-55mm lens. I've had it since October. I want a good walk around that will be good for Disney as well. I'm debating between the 28-135mm or the 18-135mm. They both have an Fstop of 3.5-5.6. I just really want something that is sharp. Is one lens better than the other? I've read a million reviews, but I'm still so lost on which one would be best. The price difference is about $116 between the two. I don't want to spend more than $500 so the 18-135 would be at the top of my budget. So any advice? Thanks so much!!! :)

I have the 18-135mm, and I just love it. It's on my camera most of the time (though my Sigma 30mm is getting more and more use). It produces great quality shots, and it's zoom range is just great for Disney.

Just FYI to OP. That is a great walk-around lens for outdoor, daytime. Due to its F-stops though, it is going to take some adjustments in ISO and other actions for better shots at in low-light. Fireworks should be all right with a tripod and a remote shutter release cord.

I use a predecessor to the 28-135, the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 (it's discontinued but you can get it used for around $200 right now). It's my walk around lens and I love it.

Between the 18-135 and the 28-135 the 28-135 is supposed to be sharper. I have been unimpressed from what I've seen from the 18-135 myself, but a lot of people do like the lens. It's all a bit subjective really.

The 18-135 is my walk-around lens for my 60D. It came with the kit and I had bought another lens (17-55 2.8) for a walk around before I even bought the 60D and gave almost $1000 for it. There's a post here about it somewhere. I decided to just take the 18-135 with me one morning at WDW in April and it's been on my camera ever since.

I will admit that at night at WDW, I usually opt for the 17-55 as my walk-around simply because of its 2.8 CA but overall, the 18-135 can't be beat for the money.

Take a look on fleaBay if you want to save a few bucks.

I admit I liked the 28-135 slightly better, but I sold mine because I missed the wide end as a walk-around on my crop cameras (T2i and 60D).

As for the 18-135, maybe I just got a good copy but mine is tack sharp. No complaints.

Thanks everyone! I have a T2i so i'm not sure. Maybe the 18-135 would be best so I can go wider. Ahh so many decisions. I don't get a lot of noise with this camera so even with a high ISO for night/indoor shots, it shouldn't be too bad.

Follow the link in SrisonS's signature. He uses mostly the 18-135 lens. I bet that will sell you on it.

Oh i know! I'm sort of stalk his flickr page! LOL. I LOVE his photos! I think i'm going to go with the 18-135mm! Should i get a hood?

I see that I have to watch out for you now. ;)

Definitely get the hood though. Plus, it makes for great lens protection.

Another vote for the 18-135-I got mine this past spring and was way under your budget-I think I ended up getting it for 250.00 on ebay-new.

:lmao: I'm a total disney photo stalker. I have flickr on my TV now.. Your photos look awesome on a 60 inch screen! haha. My dh thinks i'm crazy for looking at "other peoples disney photos" Hopefully after our trip, he gets it.

Ok so i'm going with the 18-135mm and a hood!! I can't wait to get it! Thank you all SO MUCH for the help!! We just had to change our trip to the first of November yesterday, so I get to photograph christmas decorations! yay! :woohoo:

I might have to get a 60 inch t.v. to test out that theory. ;)

And stalking people's photos is a great way to learn. I've always looked at the Disney pics on here and Flickr (as well as loads of non-Disney pics) to get some insight on how to view things differently. So I guess I'm bananas too. :thumbsup2

I also love stalking other photos o Flickr. It's been very helpful to have the EXIF data to readily available.

You should get one! I did NOT want the TV, but now that i have it.. wow! I can't wait to look at my own disney photos on it!
I'm glad i'm not the only one who looks at disney photos, and EXIF data info! See we aren't odd.. We are just awesome!! :thumbsup2

My 28-135 is a fantastic walk around lens. I also use the Sigma 18-125. I have been using my 10-20mm Sigma at the Parks lately,
