Can't buy a "Welcome Home"

On our last two trips we have not been able to buy a "Welcome Home". It has become somewhat of a game in that we have decided whoever can get a security guard or CM to say welcome home will be awarded a prize. Any suggestions?

You could ask them to read the "welcome home" sign in the lobby aloud. ;)

DVCBob,

Don't mean to brag, but I got so many "Welcome Home's" at OKW last week it ALMOST got annoying (only kidding).

I would have disappointed, too, if I didn't receive any - I know it sounds like a little thing, but it's a really nice touch.

Third time may be the charm! You just need to book again!

We got a couple of "Welcome Home" last December at the VWL and we were not even members then.

No frogs were riveted during the construction of this post.

We bought into BWV last October. In December we had our first trip on points, staying at OKW. Didn't get a single 'welcome home' the entire time! I just figured Rich had told the OKW people that we were BWV people so they shouldn't welcome us... :D
We'll see what happens in 2 weeks when we visit VWL, and in December when we finally get to our home resort!

Sorry to hear that you haven't been properly welcomed home. I'll admit it was a big thrill to hear it when we checked into OKW a few days after joining last year...even though we were staying that time on rented points.

Maybe have them note on your ressie for next time that you'd appreciate a "Welcome Home" since you've never been given one!

Thanks for the replies. We will be down for the August pin event, before and after the cruise at Halloween and for New Years. Hopefully we will be able to drag a welcome home out of someone during these times.

Thanks again

Same here...no "welcome" so far. I thought it might have to do with me being a BWV owner but staying at OKW, too. We checked into BW for our first stay last Sunday(Easter), and not only did I not get a "Welcome Home", but the CMs at BW seemed ignorant of WDW things in general! I was not given a nifty little folder with a resort map or DVC discounts or anything like I was given at OKW. When I inquired about the number to the bakery and florist, as it was my daughter's birthday, it took 3 CMs at the front desk to get it. And for the record, nothing was done by the staff for my daughter's birthday(not guaranteed, I know, but it was a nice touch at OKW when the staff did something for my younger daughter's birthday in Feb.). The room was great(2nd floor, 2060, view of Luna Park)but the hike to the car was VERY long. DH and I decided that the perfect DVC resort would be located in the BW area, have units and buildings like OKW with parking out front, a pool like the BW, and be staffed by OKW CMs that know how to say "Welcome Home"! What are the chances?

You could always head on over to the Caribbean Beach Resort. Believe it or not, we got our very first (and only) 'welcome home' from the guard at the front gate. He saw our CBR parking pass and waved us through with a hearty 'Welcome home'. Dh and I just looked at each other and started laughing. We would have killed for a welcome like that at BWV.

Jenny...I always knew there was a reason I liked CBR! ;)

hi to all: the only welcome home i ever received at bwv was from the gate guard. i have always gotten my little dvc folder at the front desk though. maybe they were training new people, plus they may not know to say welcome home to the dvc people as opposed to the bwi guests.

On the day we signed for VWL in November, we ventured over to "check it out". We went into the health club and a very nice gentlemen chatted with me and when he found out we had just signed on he instantly said "Welcome home", and "this is your health club". I was thrilled and can't wait to get my next "welcome home" in May. ;)

We usually get a welcome home from the guard at OKW and the CM at the front desk
Plus our favorite bartender at the GS always welcomes us home.

The only place I ever got a Welcome Home was at Vero beach check in.Other then that no Welcome Homes :(

I have been to several DVC properties and the only one that consistantly gives you a "Welcome Home" is at OKW. In fact my BIL always gets a laugh when we arrive at the gate of OKW and the guard will always say "Welcome Home". BW and WL have a crossover of DVC and paying guests so that is why I thought they do not say it. It does make you feel special when you hear it.

We just bought in March and after our tour we headed over to VWL to check it out. We were "welcomed home" all over the place. The gym, the reception area, the gate guard. I'm going to be really bummed if we don't get one on our first visit.

We've been DVC members since '93 and have always received many "welcome homes" whenever we've been to WDW. OKW is our home resort and we always feel like we've come home when we drive in. Sorry that you haven't experienced the "welcome" but hope that changes soon.
