I agree. I have met a few people in my own faith that are like that, and I truly don't understand what they think is so wrong with imagination and make believe. I don't believe God intended for us to spend our lives trying to find evil in everything.

you know its really sad how people judge people by what they like...read...how they look etc...what about people just being people.....that poor girl will probably not have many friends because her parents will find faults in every kids she tries to play with....

My SIL is like that!! Fanatic...always judging.....
NO christmas tree.....santa is not invited to their house.... did not read first Harry Potter Books and I was a heathen for letting my DD read them (although for some reason...she has now found these acceptable!!)
The latest was a negative comment to my DD16 about what she wears ...when we told her to speak with us not our DD about any concerns she said she wants nothing to do with us and we have not spoken since...
she took her DD16 out of town the next week so she missed our DD sweet Sixteen party.......
I guess the idea of 16-17 year old girls and boys dancing and having fun was too much for her....

she would not let her DD cut her hair for religious reasons..but conveniently she prayed on that and god told her she could let her trim her hair

Poor child. I'm sure your dd will still be kind to her at school/whenever they run into each other. The other child needs to know those of us who do enjoy FICTITIOUS characters are really good at heart, too!

I have no idea what religion the girls family is but we are Lutheran and DD likes Tink and DS reads Harry Potter - I have to admit I am surprised that Tink has caused a stir before Harry Potter - LOL

DD will still be nice to this girl of course but I believe the parents may have removed her from public school because of all the outside influences. DD has other friends but she was sad to see this girl leave.

I have an in-law that has similar beliefs and doesn't allow their kids to watch anything "unnatural" but they love Veggie Tales. Singing and dancing vegetables are so natural.

One question though--did you speak directly to the parents? (Maybe I missed that, if you did). Is it possible that the little girl heard "We don't approve of Tink because she has to do with magic and we don't believe in that" from her parents and translated it to your DD as "I can't play with you because you like Tink"?

I don't doubt that there are folks out there who would forbid their kids from playing with other kids for reasons like that but maybe (hopefully) this isn't the case here?

I hope your DD will not be deterred in seeking out new friends because of this.

Actually I have never talked to the girls parents about this but this is what DD told me that the girl said - the girl was very sad about it from what DD said. This child has also been removed from the public schools because they did not want her exposed to Disney movies or any type of fantasy movie with magic in it - DD's class would watch disney movies on breaks sometimes. I think this is a case of overprotecting and I think it will back fire on the parents when this child is older. It is sad.

Reminds me of the time several years ago when my DD was playing with the next-door neighbor kids, and took Fantasia over there to pop in the VCR. It was ok until they got to one part of it (maybe the night on bald mountain? can't really remember now), and the mom took it out of the machine and sent DD home, telling me they don't allow such things in their house.
