Just got back from a 7 day cruise on the Wonder. It ported out of San Diego to do the Mexican Rivera Cruise. We did a excursion with Canopy River UTV tour and wanted to warn folks looking to do this excursion.

My wife and I booked this adventure thru a cruise ship and the price was very competitive. The trail and the trail guides were incredible, probably the best riding I have ever done on a UTV. I would highly recommend this, but beware of some of the stuff I am about to talk badly about.

The shuttle bus from the cruise line to the facility is something very impractical and waste a considerable amount of time. As we left the cruise ship, we loaded into coach buses to be driven approximately 5-8 miles to be switched into a open air bus, wasting precious and paid riding time (at least 25-30 minutes).

The UTV we had wasn’t in the best condition as the passenger seat locking mechanism to move the seat forward and backward was broken and missing. So as you climbed hills, the seat would move all the way back slamming the knees of the passenger in the rear seat and as you descended hills, it would slam the passenger in the front seat into the front console. The drivers seat seat belt took some doing to get it to work as it was frayed and very difficult to get it in and out of the retractor.

If your going as a couple, be prepared to be paired up with other people. It was just my wife and I that booked this and we were put with another couple to share the drive time. Unfortunately, there really isn’t a spot to pull over and switch drivers and the guides didn’t inform us until we were more than half over to switch drivers. I started out driving and my wife didn’t get the opportunity to drive as we knew we needed to share the time with the other couple. My wife was really bummed out and upset, as she was the one who booked it and was really excited to do this adventure and DRIVE the UTV.

We were very upset as we were never told we would have to share this experience with strangers. Canopy River should make it known by saying is you have less than 3 people, you will be sharing the UTV. If we would have known this, we wouldn't have booked this. In there description of the excursion, it does state that you may be paired up with other riders. There was no maybe for us, you were paired up and that happened to the whole group who took this excursion. This was talked about on the ride back to the ship as we all felt how it was misrepresented.

When we made it to the complimentary beverage and snack stop, be prepared that you are going to be offered pop and water with cookies (which were ritz crackers) and watermelon. Not at all what was described in excursion description. The excursion did offer beer and other alcoholic refreshments at the snack stop with a “nominal” fee.

Once the ride was concluded, you were brought back to the main facility were you started out at, to only find out that your bus will not be back to pick you up until 1 1/2 hours after the tour. So your stuck there, and this is by design as the operator wants you to patronage their restaurant and swimming pool facility. This to me was outrageous and completely dishonest!!! Not to mention, to use the pool, they were charging the group I was with $10 per person to swim in the pool. Not one of us paid that fee!

As I stated from the beginning, the trails and waterfall experience was incredible! The guides did a excellent job capturing all the fun with photography, which I did buy the thumb drive for $50. Would I recommend this tour, YES, if you have 3-4 people and figure out how to share the drive time. Otherwise, just know what your getting into.

If so, it clearly states that if your party is smaller than 4 you may share the vehicle and driving duties with others.

Reading ALL the small print definitely helps!
We did see that and I did say that in my post. May makes it sound optional, we did not have a option, we were told you will be sharing the vehicle. As I said in my post, if your less then 3 people, plan on sharing with strangers.

I guess we are just different. I see "may" I go on the assumption that means "will". The not locking seat and frayed seat belt are legitimate reasons to complain. Having to share when it is clear that is a possibility is not IMHO.

I know I may help you is different then saying I will help you, sounds optional to me. Like you said, to each their own
