I'm looking for a new camera to carry around...I have a Rebel, but I'd like a small camera that would fit in a wristlet (friends and I are going clubbing in Montreal in a few weeks, and I'm sure as heck not taking my Rebel on that trip!)

Anyway, I had been looking at the Canon SD 500, 550, and all the way up to the 700, mainly because they were so small. Is there any huge difference between the versions? Do they use the same memory cards that the Rebel does? I read somewhere that the pictures tend to be blurrier because the camera is smaller?

I also saw mentions of the A620 on this board, how would that compare to the SD?

Thanks for any help, comparing cameras today is so hard!

SD series are smaller and a tad lighter than A series

A series tend to have better sensor, but not necessarily so.

Canon P&S now only uses SD card, you can't use the CF card from your Rebel. There is a trick, however, you can buy SD card AND an SD-to-CF converter so you can use your SD on your Rebel.

For comparison, visit Canon.ca (it's better to do comparison there than Canon US.

I can only recommend SD700 due to its Image Stabilizer. The smaller the camera, the lighter it's going to be, the less stable it's going to be in your hands, hence the higher the chance the picture will come out blurry.

Especially because you're going to go clubbing, ISO 400 and ISO 800 will be essential so when you're taking "night snapshot" you'll get the subject AND the background at the same time.

Forgot to add. the 620 is definitely thicker than SD700

i second the recommendation on getting IS. we have a 550 that we use in water and just to carry around. if you're not careful, you get lots of vertical camera shake due to its size and finger pressure.
i keep telling her, elbows in....
