Canon SD1400is or Panasonic Lumix ZS5

I'm looking for a new point and shoot and I think these are the two I've narrowed the search down to. I've looked up reviews online, viewed user photos/videos, gone to the store and played with each and am still having a hard time deciding which one to get. Anyone have any experience with either one of or both of these? The Canon's zoom isn't as impressive as the Lumix, but if the overall quality of the photos with the Canon is better I'd rather have that than a slightly better zoom.
I'd really love some imput on these 2 cameras. Thanks in advance!

I was debating between the Canon SX210 and the Lumix 5 and I just bought the Canon. Everyone says Canon is the better camera brand. The oen negative I read was the Canon was a bit slower but I've found it to be fine. The SX210 has a larger zoon at 14X. The lumix is only 12. I played with both and kept going back and forth but so far I am happy with my decision.

I toted a Canon SD780IS around Disney for 2 trips and loved it for what it was (a PnS, I'm a DSLR guy). I gave it to my wife when I replaced it with an SD3500 when they came out.

The SD1400 is essentially an updated SD780.

For my money, I'd buy a 3500 if I wanted a PnS, but the 1400 should be a great little camera if that's what you want it for. Small and pocket-friendly.

up to $300 is my budget. So I'm looking at stuff in the $200-$300 range. I should also note that this would be upgrading a 5 year old Kodak PnS. So pretty much everything out there is better than what I've got now. Which is actually still pretty decent. I get good pictures and decent video from my camera still.
