Canon SD1100 IS

Hello DISers!
My dh & I are buying a camera for our dd for her 8th grade graduation/confirmation/birthday. She has requested a pocket camera but is used to the shots from my Canon XT. In searching for a camera that will produce decent shots, have some image stabilization, not use a proprietary memory format and remain under our budget of $250, I have settled on the Canon SD1100 IS. (she wants the blue one)

Any one have any experience with this camera? Is there a camera that I am missing? We are going to the store today so she can hold it before I order it online.

We have had one of the tiny SD1100s for about a month, it does well but has a tendency to blow out the bright parts of a scene. The battery is only rated for about 200 images, get a spare.

It is really small but if her hands are small it should be ok. Just don't expect Xt quality from the images.

I don't have the SD1100 but I'm on my 3rd Canon Elph. I have looked at other cameras but I keep coming back to the Canon Elph. Right now I am using the SD850IS. It is a good idea to let her try it out in the store first. I think you will be happy with it.

Thanks for your input. We went to the store yesterday and she likes the camera. She is very small with small hands so it felt very comfortable to her. (I missed the bulkiness of my XT!) The indoor/no flash pics were pretty good but it's a shame your choices are Auto ISO or High ISO. I did play around with a Sony Cybershot - nice features! I love the grid on the lcd display option.

The SD1100 IS seems like a good little camera for her so now I am off to find the best deal! $220 was the lowest I found in my quick search.
