Canon S3

I took a panoramic shot of the front of the Hard Rock Hotel:

And here's a photo from the Festival of the Lion King, also shot using Sports mode (and run through Noiseware):

I think those look good! I was wondering about the FoLK, how it would work taking pics there. Can't wait to see more!

As I was looking at your pictures, I realized I have 2 opportunities for practicing fireworks shots. Hopefully mine turn out half as good as yours!

Wow, nice shots, Amy!! You should post the Lion King shot on the Color thread (if you haven't already).

I LOVE your panoramics!! I have to say I still haven't even tried those - we got busy doing home renovations so I haven't been using my camera as much as I'd like to. (I'd love it if you post those on the panoramic thread and bump it back up - I love seeing everyone's shots).

I still have to order the short course book  and I really need to download the noiseware software, too. I did take some pictures of a friend with his new dog and he really loved them, so that was encouraging.

I also love the color accent shots people have been posting - very nice!

I am still very much in the learning stages, but I have purchased the s3IS Short Course book, so hopefully will learn more before I go to WDW!!

Thanks for looking!

Let us know how you like the short course book. I've thought about buying it too. :)

I bought it this week - and I think I like it! I haven't had as much time to study it as I'd like. Hopefully it will (FINALLY) rain this week, and I won't be outside with the kids, LOL!

Did you have to buy it online or was it at a chain store or book store?

Wow :thanks: for the fast answer. :)

I bought the .pdf file version online directly from the short courses site. At some point, I'll take it to Kinko's and have a hard copy made.

Like you madge, I haven't had much time to go through the book! But what I have seen so far I like. I never thought of getting it printed at a printers :rolleyes1 What a great idea - I had visions of printing off reams and reams of paper here at home!!! I will investigate the possibilities of doing that here.

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks

Hi Taqwus,

Whilst I can't comment on taking ride pictures (yet ;) ) I can say the zoom on this camera is amazing. Just a quick example:

See those boats away in the distance in the middle of the photo?? Well here they are at 12x zoom.

You can almost see the people on the boats!! Love the zoom on this

Hope this helps with part of your question, anyway.

Looks pretty good. I am just wondering if high zoom pics start going grainy

Like Heather said, the zoom is absolutely amazing! And if you have the ISO set on "Auto," your pix might get grainy as you zoom in depending on the lighting. If you use Program mode, you can set the ISO; in Auto or Sports mode, the camera will choose the ISO and you'll get some graininess, esp. in low-light conditions.

And thank you all for your kind comments on my pictures. I'll try to post more tonight or tomorrow. Unfortunately, today it's back to work to earn some money for our next trip (after we finish paying off THIS trip!;) ).

Beautiful pictures! I can't wait to use my S3 during next year's trip. Just a question for you. When I'm shooting the fireworks or night shots in program mode, what ISO setting should I use? Did you use rapid fire during the fireworks?
I used the S2 during last year's trip. My firework shots came out pretty good. I used the night snapshot setting with rapid fire. Now that I have the S3, I'm looking at ways to improve my shots, especially at night. I'm going to be practicing this July 4th to try to get some great firework shots. Thanks and great job! :thumbsup2

Gabby - I tried using program mode for night shots, but didn't have much luck, even bumping up the ISO to 800, I didn't like the way they turned out. (I didn't use a tripod; if you've got a tripod, you might be ok.) Rather than waste my time trying to figure out which settings were best and end up missing the whole fireworks show, I used trusty Sports mode for my night shots - the camera uses a fast shutter speed and adjusts the aperture and ISO accordingly. Then I ran the photos thru Noiseware. And yes, I used the continuous shutter when shooting the fireworks; ended up with tons of photos, lots (a WHOLE lot) were deleted.

Play around with the camera; I wished I'd been able to experiment with fireworks at home before we went to WDW. If you can shoot some fireworks (like the 4th of July) before you go, do it!

So far, I don't hate it - took it for a test drive, kicked the wheels, and looked under the hood! (Talking Hands - it sounds like your DH is a sweetie pie and I normally don't use the words sweetie and pie together) My DW and DD got mine for me for fathers day - there're sweetie pies too (wow, twice in one day!).
Polynesian Bound - Marty :boat: :rockband: :boat:

Has anyone been able to get some good shots of the Bird hat does the aerial ballet in FoLK? This is something I hope to get on my next trip especially if it is a specific performer that we know from when my daughter was in school.
