Hi all! I've been considering the S5 for a while (I know, I'm so behind  :rotfl:), but now my decision apparently needs to be made quickly. Did you know it's being considered discontinued?! I'm a bit confused, but the folks I talked to at Cord and Ritz confirmed what I had suspected true after trying to purchase from a few different merchants online.

Anyway, my 2 infants and I might make a 2 hour trek tomorrow to pick up what appears to be the last stinking one in Ohio  ... mostly because "the people on the DIS" rave about the S series. My husband loved that logic, by the way. :rolleyes1

I hope it works out that I have one in hand soon, and then I really look forward to reading this ginormous thread and learning so much from you all! :goodvibes

I really like the S5 but the model seems to have been discontinued and replaced by the Canon SX1 line. At the time I bought my S5 six months ago Canon was the better pick with a superior image quality but now for the money (less than $300) there are other super zoom type cameras. I would check those out and compare with Canon's features and quality

I actually checked out a couple of others... specifically, the Sony H-50 and Nikon coolpix(?) p80. I still found that most reviews favored the S5, so I think I'll end up going with that, assuming it's not too difficult to pick up.

Thank you for the links!

ETA: Holy crap! If my photos turn out a fraction as good as the ones in your signature, I will be totally pleased! :worship: Do you do photography for a living?! I can't wait to start learning something! :rotfl:

Personally, I'd wait until the new model came out, because prices on the S5 will drop very soon afterwards. You might not be able to find it locally, but there will be a million places online to order it from.

Thank you! That does look like a spectacular camera. I had trouble at first finding info on it, and am still a bit confused as to whether it's different than the G1... It seems a bit pricier so far than the S5 (which would make sense, considering it's a year + newer). I'm really stretching at this point, to be honest, buying the S5. I'll keep an eye on it though! Thank you for your input!

I went to Target last yr b4 I left for Disney & the S3 was still a little high for me, when I came back...it had gone on clearance & sold out. Last week I was at Target price still the same on the S5..then I went Monday & it was gone & clearance...called all over for a GOOD clearance price some stores either sold out or full retail price...I give up!! I want & have wanted it..I guess I can wait till next year for the S10 to go clearance (I want to have a few months to try it out though!!:confused3

Hi After lurking on this thread for a while I decided to buy the s5. I bought it in June and I really liked it:lovestruc .
Then on my disney trip (9/10) it BROKE:sad1: . At first I thought it was something I did. It kept freezing up and shutting down. I was so upset, i was really looking forward to taking lots of pics at AKL!! Anyhow I sent it in to cannon and they are sending it back (they fixed it under the manufacture warrenty) I am happy that its fixed and I am really glad that I bought the extended warranty.
Has anyone else had any problems with their s5?? I saw so many people with them in disney and they all said no problems and they have had it for a while and love it. Oh well at least we are going back next year so I am hoping it works then:goodvibes

Hi All,
I recently bought the S5 & love it! I ordered through Costco & received it 3 days before my trip to WDW. Wished I'd had it longer in order to get used to it - still my pics were much better than with my old camera. My question to all the experts here - what should I consider "must have accessories" ? I'm looking at the wide & telephoto lenses but I'm not sure what else I should look at. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

From the Dallas Japanese Association Fall Festival in Richardson TX this morning...Awesome food and entertainment. It was a *bit* warm but we had a blast!

"octopus balls" !! I used to work at a Japanese company and they really enjoyed that succulent seafood delicacy!

here's a pic I took over the weekend which you can try figuring out what they are doing -

I am so excited! I got the display model at our Target, it was the last one. Circuit City has them in their online outlet. My husband even bargained with the Target guy, so they left the display memory card in it too! And another 30% off, so got it for about $230!!

I can't wait to look through this thread more and try things out! We are headed to DL in February and can't wait to use it!

S3IS question: when viewing pics on my LCD, the picture will flip in the screen. How do I stop that from happening - it's really irritating.

With the S5, if I am remembering correctly, in the Menu (while viewing pics, not recording), there is an "Auto Rotate" feature you can turn on or off.

I know someone posted how to get this effect somewhere in this thread. I tried to search and gave up after about 50 pages. Sorry if it's been asked before. Does anyone have the instructions for getting shots like this on the S5??
