Canon S3

Just curious - did you order the adapter and filter or buy it in a store? Also - approx what did it run you? And what purpose do they serve? I have an S5, and have wondered about the add-ons - and have no idea what they cost and more importantly - how they can benefit me. I'd love to have someone tell me! :) Thanks!

A good aluminum adapter for the S5 can cost only $5, available online at -
(I have the link somewhere but you can also look at s5users.com/forum )

the polarizing filter can add bluer sky, water and glass see through but I find the attachment on the camera won't fit in my bike bag so I don't use it much, photoshop or paintshop pro sometimes does a better job!
if you are interested in lens that use these adapters check out the flickr S5 group or the s5users.com/forum

I spent about $15 including shipping for the aluminum adapter tube, the UV filter, and a new lens cap. I purchased mine off of eBay from here. I was a little weary despite reading good reviews. But decided to give them a try and I'm glad I did.

The main reason I wanted an adapter tube and filter was for the protection aspects. I'm heading to the beach this weekend and didn't want to have to worry about salt/sand/other foreign objects getting to the moving parts. Certainly dust has already gotten there as I've had the camera for several months, but didn't want the abrasive items like sand and salt getting in there. Also another reason is that I won't have to worry as much about dirt getting onto my camera's lens, I'll just have to keep the filters clean which shouldn't be a problem.

Another reason for me is the potential of adding other filters and lenses later using the adapter tube. There was info earlier in this thread about adapter tubes if I remember correctly.

I do now have to change how I put my camera in it's bag if I want to keep the adapter tube on, but so far that's not a big deal to me. Also another added reason that I like the adapter tube is it gives me something else to hold to help steady the camera when taking pictures.

Sorry for the long reply/post, hope this helps.

I find the adapter tube on the camera doesn't fit in my belt-holster so I don't use the polarizing filter that much (although I would like try an ND filter on running water or waves)

Wow those are some fantastic photos! Now I have to find the thread you used to learn things so that I can learn how to use my new camera...:)

Wow! Just got my S5 a couple of days ago. It will basically replace my first generation EOS Rebel that has now become so big and bulky in comparison to the new models. The screen on the S5 is huge in comparison. Here are a few of my first photos.

One question....what type of camera case does everyone have for this camera?

Back from AK. The S3 did well for me.

I got a lot of use out of the Sony TC. It was in use for the calving and whale pictures (those are from the cruise ship).

LOL. When I looked at the first picture, I thought, "Where in Animal Kingdom is THAT?" :>

Alaska looks lovely. Great shots. ;>

You don't see that when you go to Animal Kingdom? You must not have been recently! :lmao:

Sorry 'bout that! Ak, aka Alaska, not AK, aka Animal Kingdom.

Oh nooooooo!!!! I just discovered this thread today, bought my S5 last night and now realize this thread may take over my life:rolleyes1 !!! So much to learn. I am still in the scared to use it phase, as it is so much more than my last point and shoot. Going out to get a camera case tonight so that I feel safer taking it places!!!

Thank you all for all the information I get to explore!!! :worship:

This one is my favorite.

Yeah, me too. Which depresses me a little because on a day like that in Glacier Bay, you can close your eyes and point your camera in any direction and get a photo like that. It was an amazing day in an amazing place.

Don't be scared to use the camera. It costs nothing to take a picture - take lots! There is a ton of information in this thread. Enjoy!

It was a little family of 3 wild horses that we've seen several times while here.

I'm still at the beach right now but figured I'd post a few pictures I've taken. I'm in Corolla,NC (the OBX) it's very nice out here. I'll post more pictures later.
