Canon S3

Seems like I remember some tripod discussion at some point. It may have been elsewhere. Anyway, what travel-size tripod do you suggest? I looked at the mid-size Gorillapod, but I don't have time to order it. I'm going to check to see if our Best Buy has that size. What else has worked with the weight of your S3/5. Thanks!!

I got the Gorillapod that's for SLR's. I checked the weight of my S3 on the Canon website, and it's heavy enough to need the SLR Gorillapod.

And here are some more.......

Arggh! Not pirate talk, but Aargh you took flash photos on POTC! Some people on here would make you walk the plank for that. Although I agree, it shouldn't be done.

Nice Jack Sparrow black and white pic though!

Yep, I already figured that out, but I don't have time to order it. :headache: I was hoping for some other suggestions. :confused3

Best Buy didn't have them? I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Office Max in my local mall. It looks like Target should also carry them (http://www.joby.com/wheretobuy/).

I don't have a GorillaPod (YET), but I like my Ultrapod. It has come in handy now and then. It seems to pack a little better than a GorillaPod would, but I think the GorillaPod might be a little more flexible (no pun intended).

You could also consider a monopod or a small travel tripod. Whatever option you pick, there will be trade offs!

Couldn't find the mid-size at Best Buy. It only lists Target.com, but I'm headed to Target today anyway, so I'll take a look. I was just at Office Max on Monday. I may have to swing back by and look. This is one of those things I could have been doing while I was twiddling my thumbs thinking it was too early to start trip shopping. Of course, now that we're five days out, I'm thinking of tons of things to do.

Did you call http://www.eppersonphoto.com/ or any other nearby camera stores?

You know they are going to have them in the first gift shop you go into on vacation, right? ;)

That's my next try. No luck at Target this evening. Wal-Mart had a Grypton, but I read those reviews, and apparently they're just glorified paper clips. They only had the little one, anyway.

Haha!! They will, and it will be on sale because I shelled out for an expensive one here. :rotfl: Oooor, I won't get one, and it will be double the price.

I may just have to use trash cans this trip. :lmao:

This is a great thread. The pictures are amazing, and the knowledge shared in this thread is incredible. After taking in as much of the thread as time would allow, I decided to "join the family." My S5 will be arriving next Thursday. This gives me just 15 days to start learning how to use it before we head to the World! Hopefully I can digest some of the Short Course book by then. Thanks in advance for all of the help found within this thread!

lol. I know I shouldn't have but I only did because almost everyone else in our almost empty boat was using their flash first. When I saw this happen, I couldn't resist. It's the only way our pics came out so great. If anyone would have complained, I would have stopped immediately.

I got the SLR version as well...Totally the right one. Loved it.

Here are some pictures I took at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California the ones of the gorilla was taken in room where there is a thick window. The giraffe we got up close and personal the kids could feed him biscuits. So he was eager to be photographed...LOL :rotfl2: the scarlett parrots were just beautiful.

Question - I've seen reference to a "hack" - I'm too lazy to go and find the original source - can someone post a link to what it does, etc? Thanks. :)

Here's one of my favorite concert shots.

Here are a couple of shots of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge from our trip to Charleston,SC this past weekend. Both were shot handheld with a Canon S5.
