Ok, if this works and these photos post, I will post more later!!!!!

Search through the first few pages of this board and you should find plenty about it. Many people on here have one or one of its cousins (S1, S2, & S5), myself included with a S2. There is even a long running thread devoted to users of it. If low light is one of you main subjects, then you might consider the Fuji S6000fd because it has a larger sensor, but otherwise, the S line is very capable.

Kevin

Thanks! I saw the thread that has a lot of pictures taken by it. Some are pretty impressive!

I bought this camera last night. I did alot of research and looked at comparable Nikon, Olympus and Fuji models. I kept coming back to the S3. I'm looking forward to getting out and playing with it this weekend.

Do you mind me asking where you bought it?

THanks so much. Just looked them up online...great price and FREE shipping! YAY!!! Did you get a bigger memory card?

Yes, they had the best price going. It came with a 16mb card. Not a whole lot to work with. I bought a 2gig card along with rechargable batteries.

I'll most likely buy another memory card. I think I saw Radio Shack had them fairly cheap or I'll try Target or Wally-Mart. I cannot believe how cheap SD cards are. My first digital camera was an Olympus that used xD cards. Those suckers were not cheap.

I am also going to pick up another set of rechargable batteries to have on hand.

Good Luck.

I had this camera for about a week, and I really loved taking pictures with it, it's very fun to use, but when I took pics of my sons baseball game, and used the zoom, the pics all came back looking grainy --my older son asked if it was raining during the game-that's what the pics looked like???? I tried many different settings over the next week or so, but all the zoomed ones looked this way. Mybe one of you S3 users could tell me what it could be from--I ended up returning it, but I really wish I could have had the zoom pics look better, because besides that, I loved the camera, and without using the zoom, the pics were beautiful! If anyone can tell me if it's common or if it was my fault, please help!:)

It sounds like you had the digital zoom on and yes that would make it very grainy. Digital zoom is the single most worthless feature ever created. All it is doing is taking a small crop of the image at the max optical zoom and then enlarging it back to the typical image size. Try taking a 640x480 image and enlarging it to 3200x2400 and see how it looks.

Other than that, it could be using the highest ISO which is also noisy. If it was a combination of the two... yikes!!!

Unfortunately, to get really good sports shots, you need a DSLR with a fast tele lens. Do not expect too much out of a p&s.

Kevin

Thanks for the fast reply! I guess I will have to save $ for a DSLR. Until then I will videotape the sports instead. :)

Well I went out and did it. I bought my camera but of course the store I went to did not have it in stock:confused3 . So the Asst. Manager said they could order online and get it there the next morning NOT they didn't have any online. So then he said he could call other stores to see if they have it in stock and see if they could bring one to the store...BINGO!! the first store he called had 3 and they could bring it in after he gets off work. I was so excited. So we made plans that I could pick it up around 6:45pm I get a call saying he won't be able to make it till tomorrow.:sad2: So I go down today to pick up my camera and it hasn't came it yet. So now I am waiting to get my camera...I want to play with my new toy. LOL :rotfl2: the waiting is killing me...LOL:hourglass :rotfl2: Thanks for letting me rant!!!

I did a lot of research before upgrading my digital camera last year (had a much older digital Kodak Easy Share that I couldn't stand). I was originally looking for a pocket size camera. When I started reading so many great reports, and then went to the camera stores to try it out, I was sold on the S3. I thought about it for several weeks, because I wanted to be sure it was the right one, and also to price shop. I love it and am glad I went with the S3. The only downfall for me is the low light level shots, which could be better, but I knew that going in I was trading off on certain feature for others.

The memory card that comes with the camera is nothing, so be prepared to invest in a card(s) with the memory capabilities you need. Also invest in some rechargeable batteries.

I had a hard time finding just the right camera bag for this which fit my needs and wants. I purchased 2 which I am still not completely thrilled with, and will continue on my search for the best S3 bag.

Oh, the slow torture of practicing patience!!:rotfl:

Okay the anticipation is over. I picked it up yesturday around 10:00am. And have not put it down since (well when I am sleeping of course.) This camera is awesome. I will eventually get pictures up when I figure out how to do that. It's so much fun to play with thanks everyone for you input. Great advice on this camera..
