Canon Rebel?

yup, almost like my rosary, I always carry my camera and tripod wherever I go. And for this instance, yes, I use my tripod (it's either 1 sec or 2 sec exposure, you REALLY need a SOLID tripod for that, even trash can won't do -- if you want to enlarge it to 20"x30")

The XT kit lens is a 17-85. 10x zoom is pretty nice.

But zoom does not tell you the focal length. 85/17 = 5x zoom. The reach of the lens's zoom is dictated by the starting length. So my 70-300 has only approximately 4.28 zoom. Sorry for taking your time if you already knew that.

You can buy the body of the cam only without the kit lens and choose any other lens you wish.

also the more zoom in a lens the more chance for poor quality results on either end of the zoom.

forgot to add. Can't remember the exact setting, but approximately:

ISO 100
Shutter speed 1 second (or more)
f/11 to f/13
Shutter controlled using cable shutter release

for exact info for every shot, you need to read the EXIF data.

JR6ooo4 Thanks for the info.
It has been so long since I played with my 35 SLR I have forgotten everything. I know I had a wonderful lens on that camera! Which I would be happy with on a digital...Once the time finally comes where I can purchase a new camera I will have to do a lot of exploring and handling the camera.s

Thanks for the correction Kelly.

I have spent a lot of time with a 300D and own a 20D. I must say that every time I use the 300D for any length of time I'm desperate to get my 20D back in my hands. The issue I have is that the settings controls for a 300D are not as user friendly as the 20D. I like the index finger wheel as well as the thumb jog wheel. It just feels like I have to go through more contortions to get the settings I want on the 300D.

Top that off with the ability to choose my ISO and higher burst rates and I usually decline the 300D when its put in my hands. I guess I'm just spoiled. ;)

I don't think you'd like my Fuji S602Z, then. Just changing the ISO is a matter of navigating the menus for about ten minutes.

My 300D makes it so easy to change ISO. Just click a button, spin the finger wheel, and BAM! Took it up a notch. Or down a notch.

Yes, I would probably have had a conniption with it. The thing I disliked most about my Coolpix 990, while a spectacular P&S in its time, was the arcane menu structure. It's the same with my P4, though it takes good pictures for a P&S.

On my 20D, if I am in Aperture priority, I can change the aperture with my index finger and dial my exposure +/- with my thumb at the same time. I have fits having to push buttons so many times just to change such things with the Rebels because they lack the jog wheel. Having 1/8000 is/was a plus for me. I love the adjustable metering. 5 fps is a *huge* bonus for me, as I do a lot of action photography.

It's probably more a familiarity thing, though I've spent literally days with the 300D and still have a preference for my 20D.

You are correct. I used the 300D for ages, but although it's difficult to use 300D right after using my 20D/30D, it's not the case when I'm using 20D/30D for the first time again even after using the 300D for 2 weeks straight.
