Canon Rebel XS "busy" error message

I have a canon Rebel XS and today when I went to use it, it keeps giving me an error message when I look through the view finder and I can't take any pictures. I can get the lens to auto focus, but when I click to take a picture, the green 'busy' message appears and I can't get it to snap the picture. My display is also black. I did a google search for this type of error and I keep getting the suggestion of updating the file on it, but it won't engage with my computer. Any suggestions would be great! I really like this camera for what I do with it and I'm not looking to get a new one if this one can be fixed. Any help?

Did you try a different memory card?

My first suspect would also be the memory card.

Does it do it with the lens detatched/a different lens?

I have switched out the memory card. Traded batteries with my friend who also has the same camera. It won't do anything. The led display is completely blank and it won't interact with my computer... When I attach it to my computer it won't show up in my drives or anything. Everything I Google leans to needing to send it in...which i dont think would be very cosy effective in the long run

My Canon T2i often does this when I try to use the flash. My own personal solution was to quit using the flash and get really fast lenses.

Yeah, if you've gone through all that then it's time to have it checked out. And repairs probably would end up costing more than what you could replace the camera for.

I would call Canon directly. Worst case scenario you could trade in the camera through their loyalty program instead of eating the cost of the repairs. If you need the number let me know.
