Canon Help?

hi disers!

what is the difference between the Canon EOS 40D and the Canon EOS 400D, they just seem the same?
what is the difference between the two Canon ranges in general?

For me the biggest thing is the performance at high ISOs. The 40D is going to have much less grain. If you don't shoot much in low light, not as big a problem.

If you shoot sports/action, the 40D shoots more fps.

The 40D also has a much larger lcd screen, a self cleaning sensor, auto ISO option, better AF (my 40D is much crisper at fast apertures than my 20D), live view, and smaller raw files in addition to full size raw.

And a biggie for me - the 40D is a more substantial camera. The rebel is too small and light for my tastes, even with a grip. It just feel like a toy.

Are the 20,30,40D cameras for a more professional user? as compared to the 350 and 400D?

the xxD line is concidered a prosumer camera, so it is in between the consumer camera the xxxd line and the pro line the 1 series. it has more features and funtions and a better build quality. With that comes a higher price tag.

the 40 d also has a different af system, both are 9 points but the 40d has a diamond shaped system with vertical and horizontal focusing ( each point as i understand it focuses both ways) and just a neat little thing (to me) is the for mid points are roughly on the rule of thirds compostion intersections so a nice way to check composition. also there is a small raw setting as well as regular raw.

sigh, i have to drool a little while longer till i can get it....unless someone wants to drop a bundle of cash in my lap
i think the 30 d and 400 are pretty close ( except for mps and the cleaning on the 400) but the 40 d is pretty much ahead of the 400 imo in features....i was reading a Bob Atkins review of the 40d( think that is who it was, it was a few days ago) and he felt it was a definite upgrade from the 30d and not just a "minor improvement"...
