I went with the S95 over the s100. I also have the G12. I use the s95 much more than the G12 due to the size. I take the DSLR for sports / portraits etc... I would get the smaller one in a heart beat. Research the s100 -vs- s95.
Last year was the 1st year I exclusively used a s95 for video and photos. I typically carry a camcorder and still camera. I was very happy with the overall experience, and will be using my s95 exclusively this year.
For you, I would go with the s100. It can auto-focus during video, zoom during video, supports 1080p, has a dedicated video record button, and since it's CMOS (s95 is CCD), you won't get "blue lines" in the video as a result of very bright lights (streetlights, etc.).
Tip: batteries are supper cheap. I bought 8 "$2" batteries on Amazon along with my 2 Canon OEM batteries. Never worried about battery, or the cost of the batteries (compared to camcorders).
