But what makes it more compelling to buy over the T2i?

Wouldnt that really depend on the type of shooting one does??? Easy choice for sports shooters like myself.

I take it you dont think it is a great value... But I cant find another 18mp, 5+FPS, 16 raw buffer at full speed, 9cross type focus, pentaprism, articulating lcd camera in the $899 neighborhood.

If you dont need any of those features of course it is not of value to you, but for some that need it the next step up can become very expensive.

Everyone lines it up against the D7000, and that is a $1200 body.

Thanks Anewman - what you say about sports I think has sealed the deal for me on the 60D and then looking at getting a lens with 18 - 200/270 range. That's another story now! Reason being with DD dancing having 5fps will get me a lot more shots. On the 350D (Current camera) it only has just over 2 fps and I feel I need more speed.

FPS - I already stated that if you need that then it could be a reason. If you are not going to take advantage of it, then who cares? Then for truly demanding users this is still not enough. It is in a weird middle spot. BTW, my sub $500 K-x does 4.7fps.

18MP - Same as the T2i, but still overkill. Most people do not need anything more than 6MP in reality. Since almost all DSLRs are at least 12MP now, this is really irrelevant.

Autofocus - If you are someone shooting high action where you need it, then great. Most average shooters are better served using center point and then framing the shot. Also the T2i is not exactly a slouch at acquiring focus. So, for non-action shooters, it is also irrelevant.

Pentaprism - I don't know what the Pentamirror on the Rebels is like, so I cannot comment too much on that. My camera has the mirror and it looks pretty good to me.

Swivel screen - I see this as being great if you do a lot of tripod work. If not, then I see it as nothing more than a gimmick that will almost never get used.

To sum it up, I just don't see the 60D as being that great compared to the cheaper T2i, unless you have a few specific requirements. I think demanding users will have plenty of justification to go on up to a 7D anyway. I am sure that there are users that will get it and love it. I just wanted the OP to be completely informed before pulling the trigger and maybe being able to save a buck to put towards glass.

Just because I dont need a feature, does not mean it is not of value to others.

My opinions/preferences do not reflect those of all shooters. I can point out differences but I cant decide for them that what is an ideal max FPS(or any other spec), or what feature is irrelevant.

Exactly, that is why I hardly ever tell someone which camera to pick from a list of choices. I try to give them the pros/cons of them and let them decide from that.

...Bad divorce...work, party, work, party, work... My daughter calls it a mid-life crisis.

Getting back into the hobby. Things have changed, back then 5 FPS was considered fast and now it is considered a downgrade

Sorry to hear about your divorce. At least you got to party it away!

What specific things are you looking for in this new camera? I moved from the Rebel XT to the 50D a while back because I wanted a faster burst rate and larger ISO range. If not for the burst rate I'd have likely gone with a Rebel T2i, but that was an important feature for me so I didn't.

But that's me. What do you hope to gain from a new camera?
